Responsibilities

The Radiological Control Organization is looking for a high performing individual with an attention to detail to be a Senior Health Physicist within the Radiological Engineering Department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Devise imaginative, thorough, and practical solutions requiring evaluation of radiological standards and processes. Solutions may be unique.

  • Coordinate execution of assigned radiological protection projects.

  • Develop processes, procedures, work instructions for radiological protection purposes.

  • Prepare analytical methods for radiological surveillance, clearance, and decontamination.

  • Guide implementation and utilization of technology for both experimental and operational radiological protection needs.

  • Serve as an internal subject matter expert in their discipline and is recognized by their colleagues as such.

  • Serve as a radiological control lead on teams requiring radiological protection support. Coordinates work with other project team members.

  • Author formal radiological control publications.

  • Provide expertise on operational goals affecting radiological protection.

  • Fulfill basic ESH&Q obligations.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in calculus-based technical (STEM) field plus at least 5 years relevant experience.Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge. Graduate research experience may be recognized.

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.

  • Ability to use judgement and follow oral and written instructions in completion of assigned tasks while coping with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.

  • Ability to build teaming relationships with technical and other company.

  • Ability to meet the American Board of Health Physics criteria for taking the Certified Health Physicist (CHP) exam, Part I and II is a plus. Active CHP is not required, but is a bonus.

  • Ability to write documents based on scientific data and other information collected from other sources, including technical documents and regulations.

  • Expertise with various radiological instrumentation systems (e.g. gamma/alpha spectroscopy, liquid scintillation counters, ionization chambers, standard portable/hand-held detectors, etc.)

  • Experience working with the following software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security (located 65 miles Northwest of Las Vegas, NV).

  • Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change).

  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

    MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

    Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 (http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=14b1c770db022992d237769fbe9fc519&mc=true&node=se10.4.707_14&rgn=div8) , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Annual salary range for this position is: $97,011.20 - $145,516.80.

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
