Collins Aerospace in Melbourne continues to grow and transform with I4.0. We have an opportunity for a Senior Process Engineer with expertise in Through Hole and SMT processes like: Dip and Axial, Select Solder, Vapor Phase, Panel routing, Semi Auto Insertion.

Our ideal candidate will be self-directed with leadership skills and the ability to influence and collaborate with cross functional teams.

Core responsibilities include using critical thinking and LEAN methodology to maximize utilization of production facilities and personnel creating the optimum flow and sequencing of materials for the most efficient build process.

Well-developed organizational and time management skills and the ability to effectively prioritize and allocate resources are foundational for success in this role. You will utilize active listening, critical thinking, and effective problem-solving skills to resolve complex issues while working under pressure.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Provide technical support, troubleshoot problems, and resolve production issues of various scope and complexity relating to quality.

  • Define technical problems and create solutions in a manufacturing environment.

  • Collaborate with design engineering on incorporating changes to the designs which improve manufacturability.

  • Develop, implement, maintain, and improve processes in the manufacture of printed circuit assemblies.

  • Provide technical assistance and training support to manufacturing technicians.

  • Initiate and champion Lean/Six Sigma initiatives.

  • Determine proper flow and sequence of material for efficient build process and establish methods for maximum utilization of production facilities and personnel.

  • Analyze, develop, and execute cost reduction opportunities for manufacturing processes.

  • Provide technical interpretation of drawings and specifications.

  • Evaluate, select, and recommend capital process equipment.

  • Perform cost payback analysis and generate Acquisition Requests when needed.

  • Eliminate/reduce test defects and improve test yields.

  • Perform root cause analysis and take corrective action to resolve failures.

  • Study process equipment performance and implement solutions to decrease equipment downtime.

  • Maintain awareness of the state-of-the-art technologies in the assigned area.

QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience .

  • 3+ Years of experience in Surface Mount Technology (SMT) primary and Through Hole processes.

  • 3+ Years of experience as a Process Engineer

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62

QUALIFICATIONS WE PREFER:

  • Experience with LEAN manufacturing/theory of Constraints.

  • Practical experience applying Statistical Process Control Methods.

  • Thorough knowledge of IPC-A-6xx standards.

  • SMT processes like: Dip and Axial, Select Solder, Vapor Phase, Panel routing, Semi Auto Insertion.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills with proficiency in the MS Office suite.

  • Effective time management and organizational skills to set and achieve goals and maintain accountability.

  • Desire to mentor and develop emerging engineers.

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
