Sets up and operates conventional, special-purpose and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts, and fits and assembles machines parts into complete units, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and layout techniques. The position may assume additional duties as assigned. Tasks Depending upon which operation the incumbent is performing, they may be required to: Safely operate various machining tools such as lathes, mills, presses, grinders, saws, drills, and boring tools to repair existing or create replacement parts for mechanical assemblies or to fabricate new parts from drawings and/or specifications. Reference engineering drawings to perform correct size holes and lengths. Uses measuring devices such as tape measures, micrometers, calipers along with proper techniques to determine correct sizing. Pull correct parts, under direction of the team lead, to assemble designated parts correctly using drill, impact gun and wrenches. Read blueprints and/or draft drawings specifications to insure correct material and set-up. Perform maintenance on tooling as needed. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Communicate effectively, follow, and understand directions. Knowledgeable on correct operation of hand tools (manual, pneumatic and electrical) safely and effectively. Strong attention to detail and quality control, working within precise limits and/or standards of accuracy. Read a tape measure in metric and imperial standards. Compare and accurately determine difference in size, shape, and form of objects. Self-driven, able to work independently, and as a team. Multi-task. Education/Experience High school diploma or GED required. Prior experience leading a team or group preferred, but not required. Prior experience in a manufacturing operation preferred, but not required.
