Brief Statement of Duties:
The Sports Counselor is a full-time, 10-month shared position between the NMU University Counseling Center (CCS) and the NMU Athletic Department. The position will be housed in the Wellbeing Center and will report to the Director of the Counseling Center and work closely with athletic department sports medicine staff. Responsibilities are those of a Professional University Counseling Center Clinician; individual, group, and crisis counseling/intervention, assessment, outreach programming, and consultation in a short-term intervention model. Presentations on mental health topics. This is a campus-based position.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education:
Master's Degree
Discipline / Degree Area:
Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, Doctorate or Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work or Professional Counseling
Required Specialized Training/Certifications:
Sports psychology experience and/or experience working with collegiate athletes. Licensed as a mental health professional in the State of Michigan or must obtain licensure within three months of hire date.
Required Minimum Work Experience:
A minimum of three years of clinical experience. Experience in conducting short-term psychotherapy with a diverse population of students, including crisis work, co-occurring assessments, consultations, group therapy, outreach/prevention services, and writing timely psychological notes and reports.
