Southeast District - The Southeast District Office is located in West Palm Beach. This position will be located in the Marathon branch office of the Southeast district. Marathon is known for some of the best boating activities, amazing fishing, beautiful beaches, warm weather and other great outdoor activities. The popular Key West is only an hour drive from Marathon

    Your Specific Responsibilities:

    This position serves as a Subject Matter Expert for the Compliance Assurance Program/Permitting Waste Cleanup Program.

  • Provides program specific training events for staff and for regulated community at the frequency established by the supervisor.

  • Attends trainings and maintains expertise in rule and law, permitting and compliance matters, industry advances and issues, and regulatory impact on community.

  • Evaluates program database reports daily to monitor and ascertain trends and to ensure that data entry methods are appropriate.

  • Supports the District safety goals, and makes recommendations for appropriate safety equipment for inspectors, and provides discipline-specific safety information and training.

  • Identify and assess training needs of staff by conferring with managers and supervisors or conducting surveys. Periodically, evaluate training effectiveness.

  • Acts as a support fielding questions and issues from staff related to the business and / or programs.

  • Provides technical assistance and training as needed to ES-I, ES-II and ES-III staff.

  • Conduct field inspections; write inspection reports/letters; respond to complaints, coordinate enforcement cases.

  • Prepare and review draft/final enforcement documents; perform compliance reviews.

  • Conduct enforcement meetings,compliance assistance and outreach.

  • Reviews and makes recommendations on reports, scientific, technical or legal documents.

  • Keeps databases updated as required for facilities assigned.

  • Provides outreach and/or compliance assistance to large or complicated facilities as needed.

  • Ensures the District is meeting our Level of Service (LOS) and reporting the status to the Assistant Director on a monthly basis.

  • Assists management in the absence of direct supervisor and/or in areas of expertise.

  • Participates, develops, and leads cross-training activities. Other duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the terminology, principles and analytical techniques of the environmental or natural sciences.

  • Knowledge of data collection and analysis principles and procedures.

  • Ability to collect, evaluate, analyze and interpret scientific or technical reports and supporting documentation.

  • Ability to prepare technical reports.

  • Ability to use a personal computer and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to understand and apply applicable regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs.

  • Ability to determine work priorities and ensure proper completion of work assignments.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and leadership.

  • Ability to interact with customers in a tactful and courteous manner.

  • Ability to cross-train into multiple regulatory programs.

  • Ability to identify solutions to problems and exhibit positive problem-solving techniques.

  • Ability to meet established performance standards as identified in the district performance standards document.

  • Ability to travel and maintain a valid driver’s license.

  • Skill in producing quality work with minimal oversight and minimal errors.

  • Experience with process review and efficiency implementation through use of continuous improvement strategies.

  • Experience with workload coordination within multi-functional team.

  • Experience with Permitting Program activities.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver License

  • Travel

    Preferred Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; Or any combination of post-secondary education or verifiable related work experience, as described above, for a total of four years (Preferred)
