Job Overview:

The Senior Principal Environmental Specialist position will report directly to the project Site Environmental Manager, part of an integrated HSE team on a joint venture project. The Senior Principal Environmental Specialist role includes deputy responsibilities to the project Site Environmental Manager.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement environmental management processes to ensure adherence and compliance with company and site Environmental terms, requirements, and project deliverables

  • Provide guidance to the Environmental teams and to the project management on environmental requirements and deliverables

  • Manage environmental scope of 3rd party environmental consultants on site

  • Lead and drive a common and consistent risk-based HSE Culture throughout the project

  • Develop and lead the implementation of management systems as required by the contract and in line with corporate and regulatory requirements

  • Implement and execute environmental physical monitoring program

  • Support the planning and execution of the internal environmental audit, inspections and compliance assurance programs

  • Support in environmental licenses and permits as required by project and client

  • Provide guidance to site subcontractors, support in project approval for Subcontractor Site Clearance Activities

  • Provide SME input to complement site-specific procedures and training presentation reviews and delivery

  • Support in development of site-specific environmental awareness training to the workforce

  • Establish KPIs relevant to the site/vessel, complete with measurement and in compliance with the global environmental indicators

  • Develop, implement, and maintain environmental management systems in compliance with international standards (e.g., ISO 14001environmental management system, International Finance Standards)

  • Monitor compliance against documented Environmental requirements through a systematic regime of the compliance audit, performance monitoring, and front-line inspections

  • Establish acceptable monitoring and measurement tools, set objectives and measurable goals through acceptable statistical analysis

  • Identify new and merge local and applicable environmental regulations and interpretation of their impact on the project site

  • Prepare and deliver permit applications and renewal, obtain clearances, consents, and authorization for executing the scope of work and in connection to compliance with statutory/legal requirements

  • Prepare and align environmental management plans, objectives, and systems with company/client requirements

  • Lead/direct investigations following incidents and accidents to identify the root cause and ensure that resultant corrective actions are implemented

  • Ensure that a satisfactory report has been undertaken for process and statutory requirements

  • Review and provide Environmental input to MOCs and Lessons Learned

  • Review/approve subcontractors and vendors for equipment and services

  • Attend and provide input to forums such as kick-off meetings, constructability reviews, readiness reviews, etc.

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Safety, or Environmental Science 

  • 10-year experience within the Energy or Construction Industry and preferably within LNG EPC project execution

  • Fluent English (Portuguese a plus) 

  • ISO 14001 auditor training

  • Maintain key competencies associated with the Environmental function

  • Communication and presentation skills, both written and spoken

  • Know and interpret local Environmental laws, codes, regulations, and norms

  • Ability to work as a team member
