Speedwell Construction Estimator in Manheim, Pennsylvania
Summary/Objective:
The estimator will be responsible for developing the bid for assigned commercial projects. The projects will combine hard, negotiated, and design/build bids.
Essential Functions
Evaluate drawings and specifications for assigned project bids
Communicates, solicits, and networks with subcontractors in various trades to obtain pricing for projects
Develop and enhance Speedwell's relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
Attends pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess the conditions of the site or existing building, as necessary
Requests and receives subcontractor bids
Interacts with bidders for final overview and guarantees comprehensiveness of bid prior to an estimate, bid, or guaranteed maximum price (GMP)
Review drawings and other required documents for Preconstruction Projects to calculate budgets from preliminary through final construction documents as assigned
Communicate with team members, lead estimator, and others to convene scopes, pricing, construction details, etc.
Assists the project manager in the buy-out process.
Assists the lead estimator in maintaining square foot cost, project data, etc.
Maintains adequate estimating schedule while managing multiple projects
Coordinates and conducts hand-off meetings when the bid is awarded to Speedwell Construction
Develop an understanding of the building process and distinct types of exterior and interior finishing systems
Grows in the ability to understand different trades required to estimate and construct a building

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but serves as a coach or resource for other company positions.
Work Environment:
The employee will be in a busy office area. The estimator may be outdoors while attending pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess the site's conditions or existing building. Personal Protective Equipment must be used as required in certain situations.
Physical Demands:
The estimator spends long hours sitting at a desk. The employee spends most of their day using office equipment, which may cause eye or muscle strain. The employee will occasionally need to lift some office equipment, supplies, and materials (15 lbs.) While attending job sites, the employee may be required to climb ladders and cross uneven ground occasionally.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is an exempt, full-time position. Hours of work are Monday-Friday, with 40 hours per week being the minimum expectation.
Travel:
The employee will primarily be at the office, occasionally traveling to pre-bids, job sites, and educational training. Company vehicles are provided for any travel requirements.
Required Education and Experience:
-High School Diploma or equivalent
-Basic understanding of Information Technology
-Basic understanding of construction types, materials, and methods
Preferred Education and Experience:
Two or more years of experience estimating in the construction industry
-Familiarity with Viewpoint, Bluebeam, Office 365, and bid software such as Smartbid
Work Authorization/Clearances:
The employee must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening, background check, and Motor Vehicle Record review. The employee must have a current driver's license.
