Study Group Maths and Chemistry Tutor in Manama, Bahrain

Contract type: Full Time – Fixed-term 12-month contract

As the sole pathway provider for the Bahrain campus of one of our university partners, from September 2024 we will be teaching and supporting students of undergraduate foundation programmes.

An excellent opportunity has come up for a STEM tutor to join Study Group based at our International Study Centre in Bahrain.Reporting to the Head of STEM you will be responsible for the design, delivery and development of STEM modules for undergraduate and Pre-Master’s level teaching.

This is an on-site teaching position, and all tutors are required to teach in person

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Contribute to the design, delivery and development of modules offered by the International Study Centre .

  • Prepare and deliver teaching on Blended Delivery programmes including synchronous and asynchronous input for pre-recorded lectures, weekly tasks, live input, seminars/ tutorial sessions and drop-ins with a normal teaching load of 5-15 hours per week (based on standard delivery model).

  • Write and prepare module examinations, marking rubrics and other forms of formative and summative assessment.

  • Mark students’ formative and summative assessment submissions and provide timely feedback to students on their performance, including during one to one tutorials/ LCs and through regular student reports (usually RPAGs).

  • Writing additional reports for sponsored students if and when required.

  • Develop and update course material for modules and teaching sessions.

  • Track students’ academic journey, and identify and implement appropriate intervention strategies to support on-going learning.

  • Act as a Personal Tutor/ Learning Development tutor/ Skills for Success tutor for one or more groups of students if required.

  • Take part in bi-termly Learning conversations with students offering progression and engagement guidance and support.

ABOUT YOU

  • A Master’s degree in Mathematics and Chemistry (Essential)

  • Relevant Teaching Qualification (or be in the process of achieving this) (preferred but not essential).

  • Fluent spoken and written English.

  • Candidates with further qualifications in the subject area will be welcome and a Master’s qualification is essential for teaching on any of the Pre-Masters programmes.

  • Knowledge of numerical software e.g., MATLAB, SPSS.
