Job Summary and Qualifications

Provides leadership to the Test Development Specialist(s) to coordinate the development of valid and reliable examinations in all programs. Collaborates directly with the Senior Director of Curriculum & Instruction and other academic leaders on matters pertaining to testing. Serves as an advisory liaison to the curriculum and instruction committees and assists to develop faculty test development skills

  1. Provides leadership to the area of testing within the College and assumes responsibility for the creation of examinations utilized by Galen College of Nursing.

  1. Ensures examinations are congruent with the most current NCLEX® test plans.

  2. Codes examination items based on cognitive levels, concepts, course student learning outcomes (CSLOs), Program Student Learning Outcomes (PSLOs) and the most current NCLEX® Test Blueprint.

  3. Develops test items, reviews faculty-developed items, and coordinates course faculty meetings, as necessary, to approve items for the examinations.

  4. Coordinates with the AVP of Instructional Support and Student Experience and the Senior Director of Curriculum & Instruction to develop the format for all comprehensive examinations each quarter.

  5. Ensures meetings occur with faculty to discuss item analyses; facilitates discussion to determine any changes needed in item scoring and revision of items.

  6. Collaborates with the Associate Directors of Curriculum & Instruction to provide course faculty with data regarding areas of the exam in which students require improvement.

  7. Provides consultation on interpretation of item analyses of exams for faculty and Test Development Specialist(s).

  8. Ensures that test development workshops across campuses, as needed.

  9. Oversees the development of items for their course examinations.

  10. Reviews data from nationally normed examinations to identify areas of weakness for improvement.

  11. Communicates with the Institutional Effectiveness team to provide data for analysis.

  12. Assists the Senior Director of Curriculum & Instruction in creation of examinations for obtaining education units for faculty development offerings, e.g., COPA Training.

  13. Communicates regularly with the Senior Director of Curriculum & Instruction regarding testing and identified areas of concern.

  14. Other duties as assigned.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Education: An earned master’s degree in nursing, psychometrics, or related field is preferred. A doctoral degree in education or nursing education with a focus on curriculum and instructional design, psychometrics is strongly preferred. An earned CNE credential and experience in item writing for NCSBN is also preferred.

  • Special Qualifications: Minimum of three (3) years of test development and analysis experience.

  • Degree of Supervision: Minimal; Collaborative intent for the development, delivery, and assessment of testing tools is of paramount importance.
