Job Information

Los Alamos National Laboratory Postdoctoral Research Associate in Theory of Ultrafast Dynamics in Quantum Materials in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Group of Condensed Matter and Complex Systems in the Theoretical Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has an immediate opening of a postdoctoral position in the area of theoretical simulation and modeling of laser driven ultrafast dynamics in two-dimensional van der Waals quantum materials. The opened position provides an opportunity to study the nonlinear optical response of a material and unravel the coupling between spin/charge orders and its structural, orbital, and topological states. The position will focus on using the time-dependent first-principles theory and ab initio derived modeling to calculate time-resolved optical conductivity, high-harmonic generation, and dynamic spectral function. It will involve working closely with experimentalists on optical control of emerging magnetic and optical properties.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

The successful candidate must have a strong skill, with an excellent scientific record of publications, in computational condensed matter physics. Demonstrated experience with using time-dependent real-time density functional theory (RT-TDDFT) codes to calculate dynamical properties such as high harmonic generation is required. The ability to work creatively and independently, as a part of a diverse team, is important. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.

Education : Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, and Materials Science (completed within the last 5 years).

Desired Qualifications:

Knowledge of the two-dimensional van der Waals materials; Experience with RT-TDDFT enabled all-electron DFT codes such as ELK.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. This position will be physically located in TA-3, Bldg. 524

Note to Applicants:

Please apply for these positions online, and also send a resume, publication list, research interests, a brief statement of future plans and the names of three references to Dr. Jian-Xin Zhu ( jxzhu@lanl.gov ). These positions have an initial appointment of two years. Additional information on salary ranges and other benefits can be found online at http://www.lanl.gov/science/postdocs/ .

Candidates may be considered for a Director's Fellowship and outstanding candidates may be considered for the prestigious Darleane Hoffman, Richard P. Feynman, or J. Robert Oppenheimer Fellowships. For general information refer to the Postdoctoral Program webpage.
