Los Alamos National Laboratory Oracle Software Developer (Software Developer 3/4) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Software Developer 3/4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Application and Data Services (ADS) Division supports Los Alamos National Laboratory's (LANL) enterprise applications and performs software application development support, database development and administration, data analytics and business intelligence, software quality management, and enterprise application consulting. The Business Applications and Data Services Group (ADS-BADS) provides application development, commercial off-the-shelf application implementation, adoption/integration with Software as a Service solutions, data analytics/business intelligence, process automations, and application and infrastructure maintenance services specific to the institution's core business solutions (HR, finance, logistics, etc.).

Software Developer 3 ($101,700 - $168,200)

Working alongside some of the brightest minds, you will support the development and maintenance of HRMS, Procurement, Financial, Inventory and Environment, Safety, Health applications systems, and infrastructure components. The selected candidate will work as a developer in the Business Applications and Data Services group (ADS-BADS) supporting the development, customization, integration, and maintenance of the Oracle EBS modules, specifically working on Core Financial related modules of EBS on the Core Financial team. You will be involved in upkeep of various laboratory applications, the design and development of new applications and standards, and ensuring compliance with Laboratory specifications, standards, and security policies. The successful candidate should also have a strong desire to learn new technologies and business processes, and to become an expert in their field. They should have the willingness and confidence to develop safety-class, mission-critical software. At this level, the selected candidate will have on-call responsibilities and is expected to provide after-hours support for production applications.

Software Developer 4 ($112,000 - $186,700)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you will provide mentoring to junior staff members. We are looking for someone who likes to self-initiate work with limited supervision, use independent judgment for determining the course of action to accomplish objectives, and use a broad range of advanced technical skills to solve complex technical issues. At this level, on-call responsibilities to provide support for production applications are expected.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Proven software lifecycle knowledge and experience in all phases, including requirements, design, development, and testing with appropriate documentation.

  • Experience in writing and implementing business solutions using agile practices and principles (to include utilizing tools such as Jira and/or Confluence).

  • Demonstrate experience with working and utilizing Oracle Databases.

  • Demonstrate proficiency level of reading and writing SQL and PLSQL queries and PL/SQL packages.

  • Experience working with XML files.

  • Experience providing software support and enhancement utilizing Oracle development tool suite and working on Oracle Development Projects

  • Experience with software configuration management and software quality assurance methodologies and practices.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of secure coding practices.

  • Experience analyzing and defining business requirements and preparing technical designs.

  • Experience utilizing a distributed version control system.

  • Experience with consuming Web Services.

  • Experience supporting Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) 12.*.

  • Experience with technical documentation typical of software development, implementation, and maintenance, including but not limited to functional requirements, testing documentation, user guides, etc.

  • Experience configuring, administering, troubleshooting, and debugging a variety of IT systems

  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with peers and all levels of external and internal personnel, technical and non-technical.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Additional Job Requirements for Software Developer 4:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing business solutions and/or integration solutions from the ground up.

  • Demonstrate experience analyzing and defining business requirements, and researching, designing/developing and proposing business solutions with technical designs.

  • Demonstrate experience supporting, extending, enhancing, and upgrading Commercial of the Shelf Products (COTS).

  • Experience with developing system integration plans, including consumption and authoring of Web Services

  • Experience developing system implementation plans and system upgrade plans.

  • Advanced knowledge and abilities to solve unique IT problems using analytic abilities and innovative thinking to simultaneously meet budget, schedules, and solution objectives.

  • Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to problems.

  • Experience using Oracle DB 12c, or 19.*.

  • Ability to work for long term goals in a large organizational setting.

  • Ability to work independently with a minimal direction and/or serve as a Technical Lead on projects and coordinate technical activities of project personnel.

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills with the ability to negotiate and use proper judgment to resolve conflicts, solve problems, increase efficiency, and improve services and products with minimal management help.

  • Demonstrated experience and wiliness to provide technical mentorship to junior staff members.

Education/Experience at lower level : Position typically requires a bachelor's degree and a minimum eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, post graduate course work may be desirable.

Education/Experience at higher level : Position typically requires a bachelor's degree and a minimum of twelve years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, post graduate course work may be expected.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with Oracle Project Accounting, General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Payables, Advanced Receivables, Cash Management, Inventory, Purchasing.

  • Experience with SAP Ariba and Fieldglass Integrations/Interfaces.

  • Experience supporting and extending Cloud applications.

  • Experience developing and enhancing Oracle MRP modules.

  • Experience utilizing Scrum or Kanban framework.

  • Knowledge of the DevSecOps culture and principles and experience in CI/CD development, and deployment of software in a diverse application environment.

  • Experience developing applications using Oracle APEX.

  • Experience with integration platforms, such as Boomi.

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position has the potential for remote work. Remote work is defined as working offsite that is greater than 2 hours of the Laboratory location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
