Los Alamos National Laboratory Intelligence Analyst 1/2 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

This position will be filled at either the Intelligence Analyst 1 or Intelligence Analyst 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities

(outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Intelligence and Systems Analysis Group (A-2) provides technical analysis to enable the U.S. Government (USG) in their mission of detecting and countering the proliferation of technologies

and commodities related to nuclear weapons, improvised nuclear devices, and nuclear and radioactive materials. Working in the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Field Intelligence Element (FIE),

teams of scientists, engineers and intelligence analysts develop products for the U.S. technical,intelligence, and policy communities regarding the capability of nation-state and/or sub-national actors who

may pose a nuclear threat to the U.S. and its interests.

The successful candidate will directly support one or more of A-2's five pillars: foreign weapons analysis, global nuclear security, nuclear terrorism, nonproliferation, and emergency response. They will

work within a team environment to provide technical input and support the completion of analyses on highly complex national security problems that may involve multiple variables, varying degrees

of information quality and reliability, and numerous interconnected relationships.

Intelligence Analyst 1 ($92,300 - $151,000)

The position requires work on a team that faces the USG's most complex, technical national security questions, often in an environment of sparse data. The successful candidate will directly contribute

to the research and organization of source material and the writing of technical assessments compliant with US Intelligence Community (IC) guidelines. The position requires entry-level research capabilities

and the ability to write and present well-crafted, logical, technical analyses to a wide range of audiences.

Intelligence Analyst 2 ($101,700 - $168,200)

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Intelligence Analyst 2 will be required to provide preliminary technical analyses, compliant with US IC guidelines, for review by a higher-level intelligence analyst.

The position requires advanced research capabilities and the ability to write and present well-crafted, logical, technical analyses to a wide range of audiences.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

The successful Intelligence Analyst 1 candidate will demonstrate:

  • Entry-level knowledge of and limited experience with research and composition.

  • Ability to learn and adhere to classified computing requirements.

  • Entry-level knowledge of global political, economic, social, cultural, scientific and/or military conditions.

  • Basic familiarity with the foreign intelligence and/or terrorist threat spectrum.

  • Entry-level knowledge of technologies related to weapons of mass destruction and/or terrorist threats.

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate information and prepare written reports.

  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communications skills within teams and with supervisors.

  • Ability to respond to feedback, correct course, and improve the quality of his/her assessments.

Additional Requirements for Intelligence Analyst 2:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with research and composition skills.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the evaluation and dissemination of intelligence information concerning national security.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in classified computing environments.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of global political, economic, social, cultural, scientific and/or military conditions.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in of the foreign intelligence and/or terrorist threat spectrum.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in technologies related to weapons of mass destruction and/or terrorist threats.

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and present source information in well-crafted assessments.

  • Ability to work independently and within teams of peers, supervisors, and support staff.

  • Ability to partner with subject matter experts to inform technical assessments, including an ability to understand and apply scientific knowledge outside of his/her area of expertise.

The Intelligence Analyst 1 position requires a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a discipline related to LANL's threat reduction function, and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent

combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

The Intelligence Analyst 2 position requires a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a discipline related to LANL's threat reduction function, and 7 years of related experience; or, an equivalent

combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Relevant foreign language skills.

  • Experience in the nuclear weapon development cycle.

  • Experience in handling and protecting classified data.

  • Understanding of how the US IC functions, including the roles of its member agencies.

  • Fundamental understanding of ICD-203.

  • Fundamental understanding of structured analytic techniques.

  • Fundamental understanding of IC resources available to analysts.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout

the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for

this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q/SCI(Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Term position: Regular-status Laboratory employees applying for term-status positions may retain regular status with approval of the cognizant Principle Associate Director.
