ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As the VP, Business Development Officer, you will be a strategic leader responsible for both managing and deepening relationships with existing commercial clients while driving new business acquisition efforts. This dual-focused role requires expertise in relationship management, business development, and community engagement, with the goal of increasing the Bank's commercial deposits, loans, and other services. The specific responsibilities are outlined below:

Business Development & Client Acquisition

  • Proactively identify, prospect, and acquire new commercial banking clients with a strong focus on promoting cash management products, deposit growth, and loan generation.

  • Develop and execute targeted outreach strategies, including networking events and referral networks, to build a strong pipeline of new business opportunities.

  • Achieve assigned growth targets in deposits, loans, and fee income by developing and executing sales plans in line with bank objectives.

  • Oversee all stages of the sales process from prospecting and qualifying leads to needs analysis, proposal presentation, closing, and onboarding new clients.

  • Work closely with internal teams, including Treasury Management, Credit and Loan Administration, to implement banking solutions and ensure smooth delivery of services for clients.

  • Represents the Bank in various community, civic, and community reinvestment functions to further enhance the Bank’s image and develop additional business; assists the Bank in establishing and maintaining market position.

  • Act as the primary relationship manager for your portfolio of commercial clients, serving as their main point of contact for all banking needs, including loans, deposits, and treasury management services.

  • Deepen existing client relationships by understanding their business needs, cross-selling the Bank’s products, and fostering long-term partnerships.

  • Ensure timely and accurate follow-through on client requests and maintain high levels of client satisfaction through exceptional service delivery.

    Community Engagement & Brand Building

  • Represent the Bank at community events, networking functions, and local initiatives to enhance the Bank’s visibility, build goodwill, and generate business opportunities.

  • Establish relationships with local business leaders, nonprofit organizations, and other community stakeholders, identifying opportunities for sponsorships and partnerships that align with the Bank’s goals.

  • Serve as an ambassador for the Bank, promoting its products, services, and value proposition to strengthen its position within the local business community.

  • Act as a liaison between the community and the Bank, gathering insights and feedback from community interactions to help shape the Bank's products, services, and community engagement strategies.

  • Identify opportunities for the Bank to sponsor local events and initiatives, working closely with marketing and leadership teams to ensure alignment with the Bank's community engagement strategy.

    Industry & Market Knowledge

  • Maintain knowledge of financial industry trends, economic conditions, and market dynamics both at the national level and within the Boulder County market.

  • Use market intelligence to position the Bank’s products competitively and tailor solutions to meet client needs effectively.

  • Develop a deep understanding of key industry sectors (e.g., real estate, professional services, construction) relevant to the Bank's commercial clients, providing insights that add value to client conversations.

  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and innovations in banking (e.g., fintech, digital banking trends) to ensure the Bank’s products remain competitive and meet evolving client expectations.

  • Offer strategic advice to senior leadership on market trends, business development opportunities, and client expectations.

Qualifications

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS

  • 10+ years of experience consisting of a proven successful track record as a Business Development Officer / Relationship Manager, or other similar role, with a financial institution.

  • Advanced experience, knowledge and training in financial statement and tax return analysis typically resulting from a combination of education in accounting, financial and/or credit analysis or related areas.

  • B.S. degree in Finance or Accounting. An advanced degree is preferred.

  • Advanced experience, knowledge and training in commercial banking activities and terminology.

  • Strong working understanding of commercial, construction, real estate and consumer loan processing.

  • Advanced awareness and application of related state and federal lending and compliance regulations, and other bank lending policies.

  • Experience in leading other staff members as necessary to accomplish team objectives and meet client needs.

  • Previous experience developing, analyzing and finalizing complex loan agreements in conjunction with legal counsel.

  • Previous community banking experience a plus.

  • Strong reasoning and writing skills to efficiently communicate well supported rationale for all types of credit decisions and actions.

  • Strong math skills; calculate interest, proportions, and percentages; balance amounts; locate routine mathematical errors, compute rate, ratios and percentages.

  • Ability to leverage proven marketing and business development skills with current and prospective bank clients.

  • Strong skills in word processing and spreadsheet software.

    WHAT WE OFFER

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • The position’s base salary starts anywhere between $90,000 – $125,000 annually

  • The position is eligible for a competitive Incentive Compensation Plan, designed to reward performance and drive success in both individual and organizational goals.Details will be shared during the application or interview process.
