Why this role matters

The External Reporting team in Group Finance produces our external quarterly results releases and the Annual Report. We also set the group accounting policies and provide technical accounting advice throughout the group. The team work closely with our consolidation and statutory reporting teams and has good exposure to very senior stakeholders and visibility over key issues within the business. Our output is viewed by shareholders, investors, analysts and other stakeholders.

This role will have responsibility formanaging key elements of the annual and quarterly external reporting process, working with the rest of the group finance team and other stakeholders including customer-facing, technology and corporate units, investor relations, strategy and ESG teams among others.

What you'll be doing

  • Manage the production of the BT Group plc strategic report

  • Ownership of discrete accounting processes and related accounts disclosures

  • Preparation and review of other accounts disclosures

  • Coordinate the drafting of quarterly results releases/trading updates

  • Produce and oversee the quarterly and annual reporting timetable

  • Liaise with the external auditors on their audit of our consolidated group financial statements and internal controls

  • Set and monitor adherence to group accounting policies

  • Authority and second line of defence on technical accounting matters across the group

  • Develop and present regular accounting training for finance teams across the group to address key areas of challenge

  • Liaise with and advise finance and commercial teams on the accounting implications of deals, transactions or new contracts, and reviewing associated accounting analysis

  • Create and refresh process documentation for key external reporting processes

The skills you'll need

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) with post qualification experience in practice and/or industry

  • Experience with technical accounting, including reviewing accounting standards and drafting detailed accounting papers.

  • Experience producing or reviewing IFRS financial statements.

  • Experience of audit planning and procedures

  • Strong communication and persuasion skills with the ability to partner with different parts of the business

  • Experience producing or reviewing annual reports for a FTSE 100 organisation including IFRS 9-related disclosures – Desirable

  • Experience of SAP consolidation and financial reporting systems – Desirable
