Job Description

What You will Be Doing

As a key member of the Global Equities Group, the London Securities Lending /Equity Finance Sales Trader will drive business growth and contribute to firm wide priorities and business line initiatives. Your role will sit within the existing London Securities Lending/Equity Finance Sales & Trading team. Working alongside our Global Securities Lending/Equity Finance team you will help support our global Prime Brokerage expansion as well as helping structure creative solutions for our varied and ever-expanding client base such as institutional, pension funds, asset managers, our internal partners in Prime, Equity Derivatives, Delta one and Fixed Income as well as external Banks and Broker dealers.

How You will Succeed

  • Partner and coordinate with existing Securities Lending/Equity Finance businesses in London, Toronto, and New York to identify and execute profitable financing trading opportunities in European, Asian, Canadian, US and Emerging markets for both internal and external clients whilst continuously managing risk.

  • Help continue to drive momentum for our European expansion in Securities Lending/Equity Finance, Delta 1, Repo, PB and Equity Derivative business by leveraging strong existing trading relationships within the Securities Lending and Equity Financing markets both from a supply/ demand perspective, whilst also helping to maintain and actively develop new trading counterparty relationships with hedge funds, agent lenders, pensions funds, asset managers and other sources of supply and funding for our growth ambitions here in Europe.

  • You will have a strong understanding of the Securities Lending and Equity Finance space (and equity markets) and comprehensive knowledge of all Securities Lending /Equity Finance activities across both equities and fixed income and will be encouraged to think strategically to grow the business by helping structure creative solutions for client short coverage and financing needs using existing as well as helping discover and improve current product suite offering.

  • Daily management of securities lending book, borrowing and lending global equities for full suite of clients including retail, institutional, pension funds, Delta One, and Prime Brokerage clients, ensuring that the securities lending book is balanced, optimised and in line with prevailing market rates.

  • Collaborating with our partners in Prime Services group to ensure a seamless client experience on each trade as well as generation of trade ideas, flow colour and other market commentary for sales and client use.

  • Helping realise our global Prime Brokerage expansion ambition by marketing CIBC products and services to internal partners and external clients through regular client meetings and attendance at industry events/ panels.

  • Work with our partners in Operations, Technology, Compliance, Tax, Legal, Credit and Risk to control, report, monitor and manage business risk daily.

  • Help to continuously improve and build upon our existing trading systems and its capabilities whilst helping strive for operational excellence and robust infrastructure to help deliver front to back improvements to help grow our client footprint and franchise.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial markets, specifically Securities Lending and Equity Finance and how and why they function, understand the full potential product suite offering and how all can be impacted by market conditions and the opportunities that can arise.

  • 7+ years of relevant financial industry experience in a similar position (Securities Lending, Equity Finance, Repo, Prime Brokerage)

  • Canadian Securities Course (CSC), or commitment to attain within 3 months of start date

  • Ability to deliver top tier client service to a wide suite of clients including Prime Brokerage, Banks, Brokers, and Retail network.

  • Strong understanding of liquidity ratios and balance sheet optimisation alongside trading structure solutions. Previous experience and knowledge of transfer pricing, hedging interest rate risk and FX risk could be advantageous.

  • Experienced in collateral optimisation across counterparties and triparty agent to manage different capital & liquidity constraints (LCR, NSFR, RWA etc).

  • Experience with Loanet, Global One, Equilend, and Data Explorers and other external vendors.

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, able to present complex material in a simple manner.

  • Ability to work as part of a team with other traders and salespeople.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to drive technology enhancements- coding skills beneficial but not critical

  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities

  • Negotiating and influencing skills to shape decision-making processes at senior levels and resolve situations where compromise solutions are often negotiated.

  • Creativity skills sufficient to resolve complex problems and/or identify innovative alternatives or opportunities.

  • Comprehensive understanding of elements of profitability, risk and cost control.

  • Unquestioned professionalism, ethics and reputation and proven ability to exercise strong independent judgment when making business decisions and/or representing CIBC .

  • Strategic thinking capability with ability to identify and exploit trends and opportunities
