Amergis Healthcare Staffing Orientation and Mobility - Teacher for Orthopedically Impaired in Lodi, California
SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, the Teacher of the Orthopedically Impaired will provide assessment, related services, and specialized academic instruction, to students between 3 to 22 years of age with an Individualized Education Program (IEP); develop IEPs in conjunction with other special education personnel; coordinate support services, as outlined in students IEPs; support the work of teachers, and paraprofessionals in the classroom; and perform other related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
- Perform screening and assessment as appropriate, for students in the area of Orthopedic Impairment and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
- Utilize assessment results from psychological reports, academic reports, and other reports from related service providers to develop legally defensible IEPs
- Establish and evaluate progress on appropriate goals and objectives for each student, in consideration of the students physical, emotional, and intellectual needs reported on IEP Progress reports and report cards
- Serve as a member of the IEP team and draft IEP documents to be reviewed and modified, as appropriate, by the entire IEP team
- Adapt, modify and adjust the teaching-learning environment by selecting material and resources that best meet each students specific need.
- Coordinate, schedule, attend, and participate in IEP meetings with all required and appropriate IEP team members and the Education Rights Holder
- Manage the OI learning environment and coordinate activities for students in classes that are assigned
- Initiate and maintain a close working relationship with all other teachers to which OI students are assigned
- Design and implement an appropriate program of individualized, standards-based instruction, utilizing district-adopted curriculum for students with significant disabilities and research-based instructional strategies
- Introduce and adapt methods, devices, and materials to ensure that students are able to access the subject matter successfully
- Support each student in becoming as physically independent as possible
- Provide and maintain an appropriate classroom environment that is safe and psychologically stimulating
- Develop and implement effective behavior goals, plans, and modification strategies to promote acceptable pupil behavior, attitudes, and social and daily living skills

- Confer, collaborate, and coordinate with other professional staff members, as needed, including physicians, nurses, therapists, and psychologists, to support students IEPs
- Implement each students IEP, as written, and keep accurate records and report on individual students progress
- Guide and support the of paraprofessionals and volunteers working with students
- Report any incidents of misconduct involving students (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, substance abuse, etc.) to protect students and maintain school safety
- Participate in professional development activities and attend scheduled staff meetings
- Interact with, escort, and monitor students during community-based activities, physical education, and other recreational activities
- Communicate with parents to apprise them of their child's progress, and collaborate with parents to develop plans and strategies to best meet their childs needs
- Complete all necessary reports, including IEP documents, in a timely manner
- Assist students with personal care and physical needs when appropriate
- Provide adequate information for substitutes to safely and effective teach in your absence, including, but not limited to, lesson plans and seating charts
- Facilitate, when appropriate, the integration of students into general education classes
- Collaborate with the site Principal, and other site and district administrators, to meet students educational needs
- Any other r asonably related duties, as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree from an accredited educational institution in a job-related area
- Related teaching experience Licenses/Certificates
- Valid California Physical and Health Impairment Specialist Credential; or
- Valid California Education Specialist Credential with Orthopedic Impairment (OI) and Traumatic Brain Impairment (TBI) Authorization.
- English Learner authorization (e.g., CLAD, CTEL, etc.)
- Valid California Driver's License
- Valid First Aid and CPR certificates issued by an authorized agency
- NCPI trained and/or willingness to attend training Clearances
- Completion of and clearance from TB risk assessment

EXPECTED WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Travel to multiple sites
- Work in an enclosed classroom for up to7 hours per day
- Work outdoors as necessary to provide student related services
- Possible contact with blood-borne pathogens and potentially infectious materials
- Noise exposure under 65 decibels
