Idera, Inc. Director of Engineering - Xblend in Lisbon, Portugal
As the Director of Engineering, you provide technical leadership and architectural direction for our products. You will be responsible for overseeing all engineering activities, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget and to the highest standards of quality. You will work closely with the Product Management team as well as the Executive team to align engineering initiatives to the company’s strategic goals.
First and foremost, you will lead by example. You’re a fast learner, deeply technical, and able to dig into any problem with minimal direction to design and present logical solutions. You are a data-driven decision maker who always supports your proposals with empirical evidence. You have an innate understanding that the technical environment should ultimately achieve business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management
Lead, mentor and grow our team of highly-skilled product architects
Build a culture of trust and rigor, guiding global software development teams in building the best technical designs and implementation approaches
Foster proactive collaboration among technical teams and product teams
Participate in and initiate activities to improve process and product quality in pursuit of excellence
Strategic Planning and Execution
Collaborate with the Product Management and Executive teams to define engineering vision and strategy
Translate business objectives into technical requirements and ensure the engineering team remains aligned with company goals
Oversee the planning, execution and delivery of engineering projects, ensuring they meet deadlines and budget constraints
Product Development
Develop a deep understanding of the product code base through hands–on experimentation and exploration
Work closely with the Product Management team to define product requirements and prioritize engineering tasks
Ensure the technical feasibility of new products and features, providing input during the product design phase
Identify gaps in the technical aspects of the end user experience
Estimate software development requirements and effort, propose alternatives and prioritize development tasks for a given area
Resource Management
Manage the engineering budget, including personnel, tools and infrastructure costs
Ensure the optimal allocation of resources across projects to maximize efficiency and productivity, aligned with organizational goals
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
8+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 4 years in a leadership role
Proven track record of managing and scaling high-performing engineering teams
Strong technical background with experience in software development, architecture and cloud-based technologies
Excellent English verbal and written communication skills; able to explain technical issues to non-technical roles
Experience with Agile development methodologies
Ability to take raw product requirements and develop software architectures and designs to bring products to life
Willingness and capability to learn quickly with minimal direction
Data-driven and relentless in researching options to ensure the very best outcomes
Performance and efficiency obsessed
Ample experience building successful production software systems
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with software testing products, including Xray and Xporter
Prior experience with DevOps practices
Understanding of data privacy and security regulations
Mastery of key technologies like MongoDB, Javascript, React and Node.js
