The Quantum Information and Integrated Nanosystems Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory develops quantum systems, including theory, engineering, and control, to address critical future technology needs. Areas of focus include superconducting qubits, trapped ions, integrated photonics, and solid-state quantum sensing. The group’s innovative research is supported by on-site state-of-the-art fabrication tools, close partnership with universities and industry, extensive test and measurement infrastructure, and daily collaboration with the 1700+ Ph.D-level scientists within Lincoln Laboratory.

Job Description

MIT Lincoln Laboratory seeks highly motivated, creative, detail-oriented, scientifically driven entry-level research scientists and engineers to join the Quantum Information and Integrated Nanosystems Group and work with us to push the forefront of quantum research and development.

This open position will focus on design and measurement of superconducting qubits within one or more of these application areas: novel qubit development, advanced device design and characterization, and small- to medium-scale quantum processor characterization. Successful candidates will be embedded in one or more of these areas based on skills, interest, and program needs.

At MIT Lincoln Laboratory, you will work on a diverse team and utilize a broad set of technical skills to achieve successful outcomes on project deliverables. These skills include, but are not limited to: simulation, test planning, hardware and software development, component and system characterization, physics experiments, data analysis, and system engineering. Some of these skills you will bring with you; others you will develop over the course of your career at MIT Lincoln Laboratory

Requirements

  1. BS or BA degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field – or equivalent experience 2. Strong analytical and quantitative reasoning skills 3. Prior experience via employment, internship, and/or coursework in science or engineering research environments including experimental/hardware, theoretical/computational, or nanofabrication research 4. Interest in quantum computing research and development 5. A willingness to further advance your theory, computation, simulation, experimental, and software coding skills 6. Familiarity with scientific programming (Python, MATLAB, LabView, Mathematica, etc.) 7. Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work successfully as part of a team

    Desired:

  2. Experience with precision measurement, quantum computing, and/or superconducting circuit characterization (experiment or theory) 2. Experience with RF/microwave measurement and design 3. Experience with cryogenic system operation 4. Experience with electronics and computer automation of laboratory experiments
