Central Maine Medical Center Compensation Analyst in Lewiston, Maine

Compensation Analyst

Central Maine Healthcare is an integrated healthcare delivery system serving 400,000 people living in central, western, and mid-coast Maine. CMH’s hospital facilities include Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Bridgton Hospital and Rumford Hospital. CMH also supports Central Maine Medical Group, a primary and specialty care practice organization

The Compensation Analyst will be responsible for the analysis and administration of Central Maine Healthcare’s compensation program. In support of organizational goals and objectives, ensures compliance with applicable governmental rules and regulations.

Responsibilities include but, are not limited to the following:

  • Researches, evaluates, designs, plans and implements equitable compensation programs that are aligned with and support business objectives, internal equity and market competitiveness

  • Effectively contributes to projects related to development and implementation of base and premium pay and at-risk pay program; survey administration, communications, merit programs and cost impact analyses

  • Maintains standards for benchmarking compensation to ensure consistency in methodologies and to aid in the analysis of compensation model effectiveness and the identification of best practices

  • Participates in and interprets surveys to ensure the maintenance of the Central Maine Healthcare’s competitive position with regard to benchmark jobs and the local, regional, and national markets.

  • Anticipates internal and external business challenges and/or regulatory issues

  • Maintains current knowledge on regulations impacting compensation decisions, including FLSA classification. Advises management on applicable state and federal employment regulations, benefits and compensation policies, human resource procedures

  • Prepares and/or maintains job descriptions for each position in the organization; ensures descriptions accurately reflect the work being performed by incumbents.

  • Partners with the benefits team to work with insurance brokers and investment planners to create competitive, cost-effective benefits packages for the organization.

  • Conducts focus groups to collect team member feedback on specific issues or topics related to benefits and compensation.

  • Plans, communicates and trains to the preferred methods and best practices for compensation.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge of compensation principles

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel

  • Experience using HRIS systems, Workday experience a plus.

  • Familiarity with HR best practices, employment laws and regulations associated with affirmative action, EEO/AA and Fair Labor Standards

  • Strong analytical, verbal and written skills and demonstration of systems thinking

  • Ability to think critically about and problem solve with data to answer questions and provide insight

  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to review and analyze data to ensure accuracy

  • Must have strong qualitative and analytical skills and maintain a strong attention to detail

  • Must work well independently with a high level of responsibility, ability to navigate effectively in matrix environments, and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously

  • Strong business acumen and interpersonal skills; strong business writing and verbal communication skills to effectively present ideas

  • Demonstrated ability to partner with complex businesses to understand the business needs and to develop recommendations

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required.

  • Minimum 5 years current and relevant experience in compensation; prior healthcare industry experience preferred.

  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.
