Sulzer is seeking a experienced Buyer specializing in Castings to join our vibrant procurement team in Leeds. As a Senior Buyer, you will play a crucial role in the sourcing and procurement process for casting components, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials while maintaining the highest standards of quality and supplier performance.

Your main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies for casting materials, including but not limited to ferrous and non-ferrous castings.

  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard new casting suppliers, conducting thorough assessments of capabilities, capacities, and quality assurance processes.

  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers to achieve cost savings and mitigate risks while maintaining quality standards.

  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including engineering, production, and quality assurance teams, to align procurement activities with project requirements and timelines.

  • Monitor supplier performance, including on-time delivery, quality, and compliance with contractual obligations, and implement corrective actions as necessary.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in the casting supply chain, leveraging industry best practices and innovative solutions to optimize processes and enhance efficiency.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Previous experience in Procurement with a focus on casting materials within a manufacturing or engineering environment is essential.

  • Proven track record of sourcing and procuring casting components, including experience with supplier identification, qualification, and contract negotiation.

  • Strong understanding of casting processes, materials, and specifications, with the ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical requirements.

  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.

  • Pragmatic mindset with a focus on driving continuous improvement and achieving operational improvement.

  • Professional certifications such as CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) or APICS (Association for Supply Chain Management) desirable.
