Lilly Reliability Engineer - Advanced Therapies Manufacturing in Lebanon, Indiana

Lilly is currently constructing a cutting-edge facility for the manufacture of new modalities including Gene Therapies. At Lebanon, Indiana, this facility will be Lilly’s most technically advanced manufacturing site focused on the delivery of the next wave of innovative products at Lilly. It will include next-generation manufacturing technologies and advanced data collection and analysis platforms that will deliver improvements in safety, quality, and process performance.
This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the team for the startup of a greenfield manufacturing site, and the successful candidate will participate in the start-up of the facility responsible for both clinical and commercial supply.
Reliability engineer will be accountable for equipment reliability and maintenance strategy to support process and utility systems at the Lebanon Advanced Therapies Manufacturing site. This is achieved by the continuous monitoring of equipment operational performance and improvement. Candiate should expect to work cross-functionally to identify, prioritize, and analyze critical overall equipment effectiveness, develop equipment utilization and performance metrics, and support equipment installation, develop maintenance plans, and identifying and implementing improvement initiatives. Field support may be required to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues.
Key Responsibilities
Lebanon Facility Pre-Startup and Startup Phase:
Maintain a safety-first, quality always, team-based culture
Ability to respond quickly and proactively to changing priorities within a reasonable timeframe
Collaborate cross-functionally with Global Facility Delivery (GFD) to support project delivery
Participate in Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) work plans and spare parts development
Support and/or participate in system verification (commissioning and qualification) including but not limited to: system startup, shakedowns, initial/operational verification, and/or equipment qualification
Develop deep understanding of systems operation, assist / lead in the troubleshooting of startup issues and sequencing of systems coming online.
Lebanon Facility Post Startup:
Supports Process and Utility Engineers in the collection, compilation, and interpretation of data from various sources to determine the significant contributors to system downtime.
Communicate to a broad audience the interpretation of system data and establish or facilitate an improvement plan.
Perform structured problem solving independently or through facilitation with other engineers, technicians, crafts people, and operators.
Communicate the results and recommendations of problem solving.
Understand the utility equipment and processes and the impact of equipment performance within the utility and manufacturing systems.
Perform Continuous Improvement of maintenance instructions for accuracy, efficiency, and in support of compliance with applicable regulations.
Leverage and support leaders, engineers, technicians, and crafts persons, to implement solutions to identified system downtime.
Promote proper use of the CMMS system and ALCOA+ principles for developing maintenance strategies, maintenance execution, and documenting equipment history.
Supports Utility and Process Engineering spare parts identification and stocking strategy.
Supports Utility Engineers in determining causes of performance degradation of equipment as required.
Utilize appropriate techniques and tools (RCA, RCM analysis, failure analysis, etc.) to investigate and reduce equipment-related deviations and downtime.
Lead and/or support deviation investigations.
Seek and implement new technologies to enhance equipment performance and availability.
Develop, track and maintain reliability metrics such as, but not limited to, MTBF, MTTR, downtime, costs, emergency work orders, obsolete parts, Events, etc
Utilize Preventive and Predictive Maintenance techniques, including but not limited to Tribology, Vibration Analysis, Thermography, Life Cycle Cost Analysis, equipment installation requirements, etc.
Basic Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technology, or science field
2+ years of industry experience
Additional Skills
Knowledgeable of cGMP operations
Previous experience in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment
Experience using FMEA and RCA methodology
Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, working safely and accountable for supporting all HSE Corporate and Site Goals
Must be able to take initiative, interact with and coach wide variety of individuals
Ability to apply fundamental engineering principles to process understanding, problem solving and process improvement
Ability to function in a team environment
Effectively manage and prioritize competing priorities and to appropriately communicate verbally and in writing to various audiences
Available on call to address processing emergencies over the phone and at times return to the plant during off-hours
