Cannon Automotive Solutions, a division of Cleveland-Cliffs Tooling and Stamping, has an immediate opportunity for a Quality – Lab Technician in our Windsor, Ontario Hot Stamping Facility. The Quality Lab Technician is responsible for meeting established quality goals and reliable expectancy of finished product. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working in manufacturing with industrial machinery, be self-motivated, and thrive in a fast-paced work environment. Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Interprets current quality data to determine that present quality standards (ISO9001, IATF16949) and policies meet established quality goals and reliability expectancy of finished product.

  • Assists in formulating and implementing testing criteria and procedures.

  • Assist during all internal and external audits.

  • Perform metallography.

  • Sample preparation (sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing and etching).

  • Effectively communicating and resolving issues arising out of the production processes, as related to quality, across all levels of the organization.

  • Record, summarize, analyse testing data.

  • Participates in special projects as required in other areas of quality and compliance.

  • Perform destruct and non-destruct testing with tensile machine, Vickers machine, Rockwell machine, microscope, stereoscope and profilometer.

  • Collect and analyze operational or experimental data and assist in the development of estimates, schedules, specifications, and reports for routine or subsequent laboratory analysis

  • Develop manufacturing and processing procedures and variables, set machine or equipment controls, oversee production, and inspect processes 

  • Perform basic maintenance of lab equipment.

  • Evaluating and summarizing information and trends including failed processes, parts rejects, stability studies, corrective actions and re-validations and communicating results all levels of the organization.

  • Take samples of products during or after processing operation for routine analysis or for subsequent laboratory analysis

  • Collect and analyze data and samples in support of quality assurance and industrial health and safety programs

  • Responsible for the application of HR policies and practices and Health and Safety regulations.

  • Communicate and work closely with Engineering and Manufacturing on product changes and new products along with Quality Manager and Inspectors.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents while maintaining attention to detail and write routine reports and correspondence  

  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and deal with complex challenges involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

  • Ability to walk, sit and stand for prolonged periods 

  • Ability to work rotating shifts: Days, Afternoons, and required OT   

  • Strongly organized analytical thinker with ability to maintain attention to detail

  • Capable of preparing reports and offering product/method recommendations

  • Mathematical and/or scientific skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)

  • Adaptable to new technologies and open to upgrading skills through training

  • Experience using optical/electron microscope to evaluate microstructure of heat-treated parts

  • Experience with Destructive and Non-destructive testing methods

  • Able to lift to 30 pounds

  • Assist with other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certificate, diploma or degree in Chemical Laboratory Technology, mechanical or Metallurgy Program

  • Experience working in a Lab Environment in a quality capacity
