ANTICIPATED VACANCY: This is a part-time Other Personal Servies (OPS) vacancy to be filled by an outgoing, self-motivated individual to serve as the Maintenance and Grounds Keeper for the Osceola Shooting Range in Lake City, Florida.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The Maintenance and Grounds Keeper must maintain the equipment and facilities in a clean, well-organized, fully functioning fashion. Performs cleaning activities such as sweeping, mopping, and dusting. Builds target frames and target frame holders for pistol and rifle ranges. Repairs and maintains wooden safety baffling and earthen backstops on rifle and pistol ranges. Responsible for applying scheduled maintenance and basic repairs to equipment such as mowers, plumbing fixtures, HVAC, audio-visual equipment, and so on and so forth. Responsible for establishing service intervals and reporting scheduled maintenance. Responsible for properly securing and maintaining inventory of all FWC-owned tools for the assigned facility. Performs gardening and yard upkeep by planting flowers, grass, and trees, mowing lawn, collecting trash, etc. Ensures building systems and facilities are tidy and functional. Conducts maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, changing air filters in air conditioning equipment, changing oil and filters in mowers, etc. Checks functionality of safety systems. Responsible for supervision and direction of any volunteers assisting at the facility to ensure safety and adherence to policy and procedures and work schedules. Reads Material Safety Data Sheets and properly handles, stores, and disposes of materials. Serves as liaison with the range manger to ensure compliance with Title 24 of the Americans with Disability Act, FWC Managed Shooting Ranges Standard Operating Procedures and Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Best Management Practices for Outdoor Shooting Ranges.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge: Firearms, firearms safety, and range safety. Knowledge of mowers and all accessories used in the operation of a shooting range. Knowledge of general construction practices and procedures involved in the maintenance and repair of building structures and fixtures. Knowledge of tools used in the fabrication, maintenance and repair of structures and fixtures to accomplish work assignments and to provide direction/information and training. Knowledge of construction equipment used in the maintenance and repair of structures and fixtures to accomplish work assignments. Knowledge of manual hand tools used in the completion of electrical, plumbing, mechanical and construction work. Knowledge of personal protective equipment to safety complete work assignments. Knowledge of safe and responsible operation, maintenance, and organization required for tools and equipment used in carpentry, plumbing, mechanical and electrical work to protect self and others in the workplace. Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures to maintain safety and security of facilities, staff, and property. Knowledge of safe lifting and handling procedures when transporting building materials, tools, and other items used to avoid injuries and comply with safe handling procedures.

  • Skills: Skills to construct, alter, repair or remodel items according to blueprints, work orders, and sketches. Skills to repair electrical systems and components to accomplish work assignments. Skills to operate equipment used in the operation of a shooting range. Skills to identify information, materials, and resources needed to complete a project or assignment.
