Job Overview:

With minimal supervision, the Senior Cost Specialist is responsible for applying Cost Control procedures, best practices, and analysis to any size or type of project. The role will work closely with the Project Management Team and report to Project Controls Manager.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • In liaison with the Project Estimating team, review and analyze the as-sold budget and raise any clarification

  • Act as the focal point for functions including Project Controls, engineering, supply chain, construction to prepare and coordinate inputs, challenge functional inputs, develop cost and revenue estimates to assist with the compilation of contract changes

  • Prepare and establish the Cost Breakdown Structure and budget as per the as-sold, and load the confirmed estimates to the cost management system (MCPM – McDermott Cost and Progress Management)

  • Support Project accounting to provide value of work done forecasts and phasing by native currency for the cash flow development and hedging process

  • Participates/leads in the overall cost control function including control budget maintenance, commitment monitoring, expenditure reporting, cost estimates to completion and project cost analysis and reporting activities

  • Prepare the monthly Cost Report, Project Management Report (PMR), month-end Anomalies report, Reconciliation report (Source vs Cost System) and other corporate deliverables such as Area Performance Summary (APS), Project Financial Report (PFR) etc.,

  • Provides significant support/development of Cost Sensitivity analyses (CSA) and Project Profit Plan (PPP)

  • Supports project closeout and benchmarking efforts as pertain to project costs

  • Prepare budget shifts, labor corrections, and actual cost corrections in coordination with cost and accounting team

  • Provides input and support as required for preparation of client invoices and payment milestones

  • Provides recommendations for corrective action to project team as pertains to cost

  • Provides significant input to the Project Risk and Opportunity (PROM) process, including quantification of risks

  • Helps develop project-specific cost control procedures

  • Maintains project cost code structure (CBS)

  • Maintains comprehensive. accurate variation order files, logs, and documents

  • Interfaces with various project departments regarding cost reporting requirements and ensures that information is correctly and efficiently submitted

  • Serves as focal point for implementation/use of cost control software application. Often is an active user

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction or equivalent from an accredited college or university

  • 5 – 11 years experience in EPC Projects

  • Experience in the offshore industry, particularly subsea, offshore and floating facilities.

  • Good knowledge of cost systems and tools

  • Fluent in written and spoken English language

  • High computer literacy specifically Microsoft Excel and good working knowledge of relevant cost software

  • Strong management communication and interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • Member of professional bodies (such as AACE, RICS, CCP, ACOSTE, PMI)
