Position Objective/Description:

Works under supervision of the Professional Licensed Surveyor to develop digital and paper drawings depicting as constructed improvements compared to plan design.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides design and drafting support to complete autoCAD As-built drawings

  • Review civil engineering specifications and civil design plans, to provide a detailed set of approval drawings that will indicate design features for the system (such as pipe connections, access points, outlet control etc…)

  • Perform a variety of drafting and design assignments using manual and computerized methods

  • Prepare drawings for engineering projects under preliminary design, design and as built

  • Prepare shop drawings utilizing autoCAD and following company drawing standards engineering guidance

  • Support overall drafting and design needs of various departments

  • Create and implement work methodologies and strategies

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and or civil 3D in a survey design capacity

  • Able to apply theories, principles, concepts, and practices of civil and environmental engineering to the design construction of highway and infrastructure

  • Knowledge and understanding of civil engineering plans for streets, sanitary sewers, water lines storm sewers, etc.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft programs, including Word, excel and outlook

  • Able to perform skilled civil drafting and related computation.

  • Able to create layouts from process schematics and instrumentation diagrams with minimal oversight

  • Good organizational and communication skills

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and others

  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary

    Physical Demands:

  • Constant physical effort, including extended sitting for at least 8 hour shift

  • Intermittent standing and walking

  • Climb intermittently

  • Occasionally twist, bend, stoop, kneel and crouch to perform duties

  • Occasionally reach above shoulder level

  • May lift and carry small objects under 20 pounds on a regular basis

  • Agility, balance, and manual dexterity, as well as arm-hand steadiness

  • Able to hear and respond to oral instructions

  • Regularly use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; reach and grasp

  • Excellent hand, eye and foot coordination.

  • Good vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

  • Work may require site visits and/or trips to jobsites.

    Education / Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalency diploma;

  • Five (5) recent years’ of design experience on major civil construction projects

  • Bachelor of Science degree in survey or an Associate’s Degree in Surveying or Geomatics, a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability with current versions of AutoCAD

  • Valid driver’s license

    Work Environment:

    Work is predominately indoors within a usually quiet to moderately noisy environment. Fast paced environment with occasional high pressure situations.  Considerable amount of time is spent working/sitting in front of computer.   Generally work regular business hours, however they will also be expected to work overtime to meet project deadlines.
