DIABETES CARE KILKENNY

Our new manufacturing facility in Kilkenny, opening in 2024, reflects the growing demand for Abbott's global Diabetes Care products. The facility will be a centre for world-class engineering, quality, medical device manufacturing, and other science-based professionals to produce life-changing technologies, including the FreeStyle Libre 3, a system that automatically delivers real-time, up-to-the-minute glucose readings, with the smallest and thinnest wearable glucose sensor that provides unsurpassed 14-day accuracy and optional glucose alarms directly to smartphones. This enables people with diabetes to live the best and fullest lives they can.

THIS IS HOW YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE AT ABBOTT:

Based at our new Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) manufacturing facility in Kilkenny, Ireland the site’s Operation Systems Engineering function currently has an opportunity for a Vision Engineer to join their expanding team.

As the Vision Engineer, you will work closely with controls engineers, process engineers and quality engineers to validate and support vision systems in the production of our Diabetes sensors.

Responsibilities

  • Owner of vision system hardware and software at the ADC Kilkenny site.

  • Manage vision systems and devices which perform inspections and verifications on manufacturing production lines.

  • Work with vision systems using Cognex, Keyence and Basler devices.

  • Review, test and validate vision systems provided by OEM Vendors including Crest, Catalyx, Antares.

  • SME on image emulation, image processing, metrology, feature extraction, data acquisition and pass / fail simulation, OCR, and object recognition.

  • Review vision system performance and analyse failed images to drive continuous and yield improvement activities.

  • Collaborate with site and divisional SME's to review hardware (e.g., cameras, lighting optics etc) for vision system applications and ensure they are calibrated to deliver accurate inspections, measurements, and image quality.

  • Manage the storage and retrieval of large volumes of images from production line systems.

  • Identify and implement performance optimizations to ensure that the vision system meets speed and efficiency requirements.

  • Continuously collaborate with other engineers and stakeholders to integrate the vision systems with new systems or platforms.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum Level 7 NFQ qualification or equivalent. Engineering /Science, preferred.

  • Minimum 2 plus years’ experience in a similar position.

  • Working experience of Machine Vision Systems and a proven track record of having implemented the Cognex Insight camera hardware and spreadsheet platform, Cognex Vision Pro, or suitable equivalent to demonstrate a fundamental understanding of the subject

  • Excellent Troubleshooting/Diagnostics skills

  • Competency in vision algorithm development and interfacing with PLC/HMI systems

  • Working understanding of Optics, Lighting Techniques

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering (Systems, Mechanical, Computer, Electrical, Biomedical, or Software), or related discipline

  • Experience working in the medical device industry

  • Experience with designing, developing and validating vision systems
