Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

TranSystems Midwest offices (Kansas City, Wichita, or Omaha) are seeking an Experienced Roadway Engineer responsible for the design and preparation of plan submittals related to highway and arterial roadway design, complex intersection design, local roadways, site design, drainage design for DOTs and other various agencies. This is a technical position with management and business development-related opportunities.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead technical design efforts for tasks related to the planning and design of transportation facilities such as freeways, arterials, intersections, drainage, and site design.
  • Responsible for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
  • Research design options and document findings for Senior Project Engineer and/or Project Manager
  • Provide input for Requests For Information (RFIs) and review shop drawings during the construction phase of the project.
  • Participate in business development activities.
  • Occasionally represent the organization in Client meetings to resolve important questions.
  • Inform Project Manager of workload and any changes in project schedule, scope, or additional services.
  • Usually performs as a lead designer and consultant to a technical specialty.
  • Work with Project Manager to plan, organize, and deliver plans as required with associated projects.
  • Mentor younger engineers working on associated projects.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Registered as a licensed Professional Engineer in Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and/or Missouri, or the ability to attain within one (1) year of employment.
  • 5 years of design experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and practice of industry recognized technical manuals such as AASHTO and familiarity with State DOT standards and specifications.
  • Demonstrates creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented engineering problems.
  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.
  • Actively advocates for full inclusion in the workplace, fostering an environment that welcomes diversity and values equity for all employees, partners, clients, and the communities that TranSystems serves.

What wed prefer for you to bring to our firm:

  • Experience working with local state agencies and other Midwest municipalities.
  • Positive attitude and great collaborative communication in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, MicroStation (Geopak, OpenRoads), and roadway associated technical programs.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills are imperative.

Work Environment:

  • Workplace includes a hybrid in-office environment ith flexibility of remote work weekly. Three (3) days of working in the office and as needed for projects, staff, and mentoring.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
