Position Details

Do you have experience preparing menus, shopping for groceries and supplies, teaching food handling in nutritional setting within a child care setting or institution ?

Position is responsible for coordination of services related to nutrition and meals for youth who reside in a residential program. Youth in the program will have specific culture needs for types of food offered. Position must be aware of and sensitive to meeting cultural dietary requests. Responsibilities including menu planning, ordering of food and supplies, and making sure that state regulatory and licensing guidelines regarding food preparation, storage, and daily nutritional guidelines are followed.

$18.00 Hourly and Benefit Eligible

Work Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Some Weekends, Holidays, and on call may be required

Position is responsible for coordination of services related to nutrition and meals for youth who reside in a residential program. Youth in the program will have specific culture needs for types of food offered. Position must be aware of and sensitive to meeting cultural dietary requests. Responsibilities including menu planning, ordering of food and supplies, and making sure that state regulatory and licensing guidelines regarding food preparation, storage, and daily nutritional guidelines are followed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate menus for the group home that meet state nutritional guidelines

  • Plan and coordinate menus that reflect the cultural dietary choices of the residents and ensure menus are posted in the facility as required by policy

  • Work alongside Youth Support Workers to plan menus that are cultural appropriate for minors in the home

  • Be responsible for training, tracking, and managing food storage and food preparation

  • Teach classes to youth in the program regarding nutrition and meal preparation

  • Collaborate with direct care staff to cook meals

  • Manage and restock food inventory for the program

  • Maintain knowledge of and follow Michigan state licensing food regulations and guidelines

  • Make food purchasing decisions in a cost-effective manner by following Samaritas policies and budgets

  • Meet with house supervisor or designee regularly for supervision

  • Coordinate preparation and safe storage of offsite meals for activities or school as needed

  • Ability to have a flexible schedule depending on need


Job Qualifications

Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification

  • High School Diploma

  • Nutritional or food service training/certification preferred

    Experience

  • Experience working in a residential or child caring institution preferred

  • Experience working in nutritional setting preferred

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice, solution focused intervention and trauma informed care

  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish (or the major language of the youth in care), preferred

  • Ability to read, speak and write English and Spanish (or the major language of the youth in care) utilizing proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar preferred

  • Ability to work creatively and effectively in team setting as well as independently

  • Ability to effectively communicate with others on an interpersonal level

  • Ability to provide high quality customer service and build relationships with providers

  • Knowledge of the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the individuals served

  • Valid unrestricted driver’s license with good driving record, proof of current registration and automobile insurance required; reliable personal transportation suitable for safely transporting persons served required

  • On-site or in-person work in required for scheduled hours

  • Maybe required to be on shift to ensure adequate coverage for compliance
