About the Department of Design Tech


The new Department of Design Tech is a multicollege, transdisciplinary initiative pioneering innovation, research, and teaching on topics at the intersection of design and emerging technology that most greatly impact research, industry, and practice in a changing world.


Bridging expertise and catalyzing exploration, innovation, and collaboration in emerging areas, including design + interactions, design + materials, design + media, and design + environments, Design Tech is a generator of new modes, methods, and applications that redefine design practice and research.


The Opportunity


Are you ready to take on a multifaceted role within an innovative academic environment? The Department of Design Tech is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated Program Coordinator to provide comprehensive administrative support to our team and the Department Chair. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in an ambiguous environment, can operate with minimal oversight, and is passionate about supporting academic excellence.


This is a part-time, 32 hour per week position. Scheduled hours may vary based on business needs, and may require some weekend, overtime, or holiday work.


Key Responsibilities


General Program Management:

  • Design and implement new processes for student service support.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies and data privacy regulations.
  • Track and report on student financial support in coordination with Graduate Financial Aid Administrators.

Curriculum Support:

  • Facilitate the teaching assignment process and coordinate course room scheduling.
  • Maintain and update courses in the university catalog.

Student Support:

  • Advise current students on academic matters, curriculum requirements, and financial aid.
  • Manage student data and support all aspects of academic program delivery.
  • Coordinate student recruitment, admissions, and orientation activities.

Content Management:

  • Craft and manage communication materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Maintain the department's website and create various media, including newsletters and social media posts.

Event Coordination:

  • Plan and coordinate department events in both in-person and virtual formats across varied locations.

Chair Support:

  • Manage the chair's calendar and correspondence, ensuring timely follow-up on requests.
  • Assist with drafting, writing, and editing reports, presentations, and other correspondence.
  • Coordinate complex travel arrangements and reimbursements.

Department/Organizational Administrative Support:

  • Establish administrative structures to support the department's growth.
  • Act as the primary contact for faculty searches and confidential department matters.
  • Collaborate with administrative staff across departments to leverage insights and experience.

Professional Development:

  • Participate in projects and seek out professional development opportunities to enhance effectiveness and connection to Cornell's mission.

  • Associate's degree, and 4-6 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
