Position Function

This position requires analyzing satellite observations, model output, and theoretical descriptions of the tropical tropopause layer and its influence on predictability of the climate system on various timescales. These analyses will support the design and execution of new climate model simulations (or other appropriate numerical models). The individual will be expected to communicate results in journal articles and conference presentations and support the writing of future proposals. In addition, the individual will be expected to interact with and support Ph.D. students and undergraduate researchers in the Hitchcock group in their research projects.

Anticipated division of time

* Analyzing observations, climate model output, and theory; running or supporting climate model simulations (50%).
* Summarize results in scientific publications (30%).

* Interfacing with other members of the group and with external collaborators to share and compare results (20%).

Required Qualifications:

* Ph.D. in atmospheric science, climate science, physics, or related topic.
* Experience with scientific programming in Python or other programming languages.

* An established record or promise of publications in high-ranking scientific journals

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience analyzing and working with atmospheric observations and/or climate models.

Supervision Exercised

* Interact with and support Ph.D. students and undergraduate researchers in the Hitchcock group in their research projects.

This position is full-time and will be located in Ithaca, New York.

This is a one-year appointment with a possible extension depending on funding and performance.

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

• Prior relevant work or industry experience.

• Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.

• Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)

• Unique applicable skills.
