Our Team:


The Budget and Finance Team within the SC Johnson College of Business supports strategic and transactional financial operations across our three schools, our central college units, and the Statler Hotel across our two campuses in Ithaca and NYC. This team consists of individuals who take a progressive approach to financial planning and reporting, utilizing data-driven techniques and tools to support our college's mission and enhance our organizational effectiveness.


This Position:


Under the general direction of the Budget & Finance Manager and as a highly engaged and collaborative member of the greater finance team, this position works closely with key stakeholders within the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business and University Central to provide financial reporting and analysis supporting various budgeting, reporting, and analysis activities.


The individual in this position develops and provides complex financial reports, charts, and analysis working with key stakeholders, college leadership, and central university offices. S/he will gain an understanding of the business needs of individual programs, schools, and college as well as sources and uses of funding to provide insight into reporting solutions and analysis. S/he will provide cost allocation methodologies and analysis in support of college and central administrative costs.


This position will serve as an expert in academic personnel/compensation planning. The incumbent will work closely with the Budget & Finance Manager, Human Resources, and Leadership, to provide financial support as it relates to academic personnel management and compensation planning. This includes, but is not limited to collaborating, providing budgetary guidance, reporting, academic staffing analysis, and various other tasks.


In partnership with faculty, staff and leadership, the incumbent will help develop and provide financial models and reports in support of strategic initiatives and new programs.


The incumbent will stay current in Cornell University policies and procedures related to finance administration and reporting solutions, participate in the annual budget process and forecast, attend various meetings and functions, and engage in professional development activities.


Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Accounting, finance or business administration Bachelor's degree and 3 to 5 years relevant experience or equivalent combination.
  • Knowledge of financial and data management systems, including but not limited to Kuali Financial Systems, Oracle BI, Workday, Longview, and other relevant applications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel and OAS working with logical functions.
  • Ability to manage complex data and information and conclude key insights based upon thorough analysis.
  • High attention to detail, able to work independently and prioritize multiple deliverables in a changing environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and to embrace uncertainties.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team while maintaining confidentiality.
