Job Description:

Position Summary:

This role is responsible to negotiate contracts, freight and spot market rates with shippers and carriers to achieve targeted profit and budget. Monitor freight loads, and investigate and resolve load issues in timely manner. Plan and implement programs as necessary to improve routing and fleet utilization to be consistent with customer expectations and network needs. Participate in logistics business development for both internal and external sales.

Here's what you’ll do:

  • Responsible for logistics contract negotiation and administration for drivers and/or carriers as assigned.

  • Manage all load tendering transactions and expedition of freight through Lean Logistics transportation management system.

  • Negotiate with customers on contract rates and/or on spot quote basis with "for hire' cartage, insuring profitability on all miles traveled.

  • Negotiate rates with the shippers on behalf of Company fleets.

  • Responsible for on-boarding and educating drivers and/or carriers on service expectations, operational expectations and Company's distribution network.

  • Coordinate on-boarding with logistics team (i.e., TMS analyst, payment clerk, etc.).

  • Responsible for P&L review, ensuring profitable load planning, increase of revenue by truck, cost of equipment and preventative maintenance expenses.

  • Oversee and/or assist with data entry of information for fleet movements ensuring accuracy for driver reporting, customer reporting, and invoicing information.

  • Partner with logistics accounting to reconcile invoices and process claims as needed.

  • Act as subject matter expert for determining market cost andconditions, andparticipate in cross functional projects to support supply chain initiatives that includes meeting freight cost objective and cost benefit analysis.

  • Develop and determine carrier base for assigned business units; lead the creation and execution of bid proposals, negotiations with carrier base regarding contracts, pricing, etc. and selection of carriers to ensure profitability and to meet budgeted cost per mile.

  • Conduct contract carrier surveys, review and analyze results, and determine action steps as necessary.

  • Prepare scorecards andreports, andlead the carrier performance meetings.

  • Determine carrier market conditions and impact to the Company and publish market conditions to For Hire Cartage associates for comparable rate comparison.

  • Ensure a strong understanding of competitor rates and market conditions (cost per mile, operatingcapabilities, delivery schedules and timelines, etc.) and make recommendations for most efficient means of product delivery and to improve on-time delivery performance.

  • Act as a primary contact and as department subject matter expert for market cost and conditions.

  • Participate in special project analysis (i.e., open/closing facility).

  • Act as the point person for all Overages, Shortages, and Damages (OS&D) claims processing.

  • Responsible for determining liability, gathering all required documents, and working with accounting to ensure a resolution is achieved.

  • Additionalresponsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Here's what you’ll need:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required)inBusiness Administration orotherrelated field. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be considered.

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required)inLogistics

  • One (1) yearof negotiation experience required. Experience with truckload rate negotiation, inbound transportation with common carriers, andThird PartyLogistics and supply chain processes strongly preferred.

  • Three (3)yearsexperiencein Logistics, Supply Chain, Transportation operations or related area.

  • Experience with transportation optimization tools.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organization, prioritization and multi-tasking skills.

  • Must have a strong commitment to customer service, solution execution and follow through.

  • Must be organized, detail orientated, team oriented and able to prioritize and handle multiple projects.

  • Familiarity with all transportation modes.

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of DOT regulations, driver hours of service requirements, carrier pricing and warehouse operations.

  • Strong knowledge of freight carrier contracts and contract negotiation.

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word).

  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
