Position Summary:
The Biologist is responsible for having cell culture plates ready for routine screening assay end points; helping develop innovative therapies for the treatment of diabetes diseases and their associated complications using cell based assays and molecular biology techniques.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Understand cell and molecular biology to establish cell-based assays and facilitate the identification and characterization of targets
Plan and run manual plate-based ELISAs including data analysis
Isolate genomic material (RNA, DNA) to perform RT-qPCR
Isolation of protein to perform Western Blotting
Use of liquid handler automation including Tecan and Hamilton instrument operation and running specific programs to perform routine high through put tasks
Provide flexible and adaptable scientific bench support as requested, including general lab maintenance, stocking, replenishing and organizing lab reagents and supplies.
Preparing and calculating Molar solutions, percentage solutions and stocks of reagents and compounds accurately
Basic MS Excel Data analysis skills including creating tables, graphs and basic calculations/formulas
Data interpretation & troubleshooting/optimization of predefined methods
Record data in electronic notebooks
Data presentation during regular staff meetings
General lab maintenance
Perform other essential tasks projects and responsibilities as required
Skills & Proficiencies:
Desired skills and daily activities would include, but are not limited to DNA/RNA exractions, qPCR, ELISAs, Western blotting
Proven Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, and PowerPoint skills
Candidates need to be self-starters; capable of working independently and directing their own day-to-day workload with minimal supervision.
Strong written and oral communications skills. Candidate is able to communicate the science they are doing with others they interact with.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to multi-task
Team-oriented and the ability to work in a collaborative environment
Possess strong organizational skills with ability to quickly assess project status and communicate it effectively
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Science (Biology or Molecular Biology preferred)
Minimum of one (1) year of molecular biology experience (either through an industry or academic research position)
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in highly detail oriented environment
Experience in data analysis and results interpretation
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of above.
