Summary:

As a valued member of the distribution team, the main objective is to lead employees in the shipping department. You are responsible for safely and accurately shipping products to Cengage Learning customers.

Position Description:

The Shipping, Lead position is responsible for performing all duties associated with the systematic and manual processing of international and domestic shipments from the domestic shipping department including safe and proper usage of powered industrial trucks (PIT).

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• This involves early prepping and organizing the daily workload.

• You will arrange parcel carrier appointments for pick-ups every single day (appointments can change daily).

• Demonstrate strong communication skills and have the ability to coach employees.

• Ability to recognize when shipping associates are needed in other areas and able to adjust quickly.

• You will conduct daily standup meetings for job assignments regarding workloads, company information, questions and team stretching.

• You will build a line of open communication between themselves, traffic department and 1st/2nd shift shipping daily.

• Communicate with other departments and management to ensure proper workflow.

• Responsible for timekeeping.

• You will be coaching and mentoring direct reports.

• You may interact with truck drivers for loading of freight and signing Bills of Lading.

• Ensure all cartons are loaded on to the conveyor to be sorted.

• You will stage cartons as designated by deliveries.

• You will have other duties as assigned.

Types of Equipment used:

Sit-Down Forklift, RC Truck, Runner and Pallet Jack

Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• At least 18 years of age.

• Skilled in site recognition/matching of numeric and alpha groupings.

• Able to comprehend simple instructions.

• Able to write legibly.

• Basic mathematical ability.

• Be flexible with work hours. Overtime is mandatory when scheduled.

• Basic problem solving and workload management.

• Stand and walk for 8-10 hours.

• Lift up to 50 lbs. for 8-10 hours.

• Follow and enforce all safety practices and policies.

• Maintain appropriate PIT certifications.

• Adequate computer experience or prior RF unit experience.

Preferred:

• PIT experience.

• Distribution experience.

• Prior Leadership Experience.

The full base pay range has been provided for this position. Individual base pay will vary based on work schedule, qualifications, experience, internal equity, and geographic location. Sales roles often incorporate a significant incentive compensation program beyond this base pay range.

$22.00 - $28.00 USD
