Network Management System Product Description

The Oracle Utilities Network Management System (NMS) is an integrated and flexible software system that helps utilities reduce outage restoration time, improve operational efficiency, provide better service to customers, and safeguard workers and the public.

The Oracle Utilities Network Management System supports trouble management, outage analysis, operations dispatch, crew management, switching management, reliability reporting, and other critical operations functions. In addition to application software, the Oracle Utilities Network Management System integrates with multiple business information systems– GIS, SCADA, CIS, AMR, and EMS to name a few – so operators have an accurate and real-time view of the electrical model's current conditions. It also maintains a complete and accurate history of all outage events for management and regulatory reporting.

The Oracle Utilities Network Management System also supports distribution management system (DMS) functionality for electrical utilities such as power flow simulation, automatic switch plan generation, fault location, isolation, and service restoration, volt/var optimization, distributed Energy Resources management, demand response and an optimal power flow. These applications monitor and assess the characteristics of energy delivery in the distribution system and enable distribution operations to make better operational decisions to improve reliability and operational efficiency.

Job Summary

Oracle is looking for an experienced application developer to join the NMS quality assurance team. The candidate should have experience working on complex mathematically based application software in a distributed enterprise architecture. Experience working on both UNIX and Windows platforms and experience in Java is preferred. Experience with electrical distribution systems or utility operations is preferred. The Oracle quality assurance engineer will be working with a team of developers and QA engineers through the full development life cycle to design, develop test plans, and test product and customer feature enhancements.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Analysis of business requirements

  • Create automated test scripts using the Silk Test tool

  • Understand requirements/user stories/ use cases & develop software test plans - Scenarios, Test Cases, and Test Data.

  • Executes software test plans Manually or using Automation tools and maintains documentation of test results.

  • Analyzes test results and recommends corrective actions.

  • System Integration and performance/scalability testing

  • Review of Quality Assurance Test plans

Candidate will have to perform duties independently under general, minimal supervision. Candidate will be responsible to report new bugs/ issues/ enhancements in the tools and follow with the concerned teams to bring them to closure. Candidate is expected to complete his assigned work in the sprint timelines and raise the issues/ Risks to the management in advance. Candidate will work as an Individual Contributor in the team; Candidate would be expected to acquire subject matter expertise in the functions and activities of the department or other assigned work unit; establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships; provide lead direction to subordinate staff and provide work direction to them. Candidate would need to possess strong analytical skills and out-of-the-box thinking, always coming up with creative ideas, time management skills, and multi-tasking capabilities. Candidate will have to track and fully document the testing tasks as per the company/team guidelines.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • B.Tech/B.E with 3 - 6 years of experience in IT and software development

  • Strong background in mathematics and a methodical/analytical thinker

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of managing testing across platforms

  • Ability to deliver on time and achieve customer satisfaction

  • Multitasking capabilities to enable effective performance on multiple projects

  • Self-motivated and able to work well with remote teams

  • Java, UNIX and Windows experience

  • Good troubleshooting skills

  • Working knowledge of object-oriented design concepts

  • Working knowledge of relational databases and SQL

  • Knowledge of distributed and/or client-server application architecture

  • Knowledge of Electrical Distribution System operations

  • Familiarity with OMS, DMS, SCADA, GIS, DERMS

  • Familiarity with mobile applications on Windows, iOS and/or Android

  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies

  • Testing experience with RESTful services.

  • Automation Testing using Selenium

  • Knowledge of JIRA, SOAPUI, Confluence

Responsibilities

As a member of the software engineering division, you will perform high-level design based on provided external specifications. Specify, design and implement minor changes to existing software architecture. Build highly complex enhancements and resolve complex bugs. Build and execute unit tests and unit plans. Review integration and regression test plans created by QA. Communicate with QA and porting engineering as necessary to discuss minor changes to product functionality and to ensure quality and consistency across specific products.
