Job Summary:
Vail Resorts is looking for an accomplished technical leader to lead our Enterprise Data Engineering practice as Director of Data Engineering. This individual will lead the team that is responsible for supplying performant data and platform engineering solutions to the enterprise with a focus on marketing technology, analytics, and next generation technologies. This leader should have a proven track record of leading teams to deliver modern and performant data and analytics infrastructure as well as experience in developing architectures to bring that data to life for our partners and platforms.
This role sits within the Marketing Technology organization reporting the Sr. Director of Enterprise Data Engineering and Enablement, and has Data Engineering, QA, and Governance functions reporting into it.
To succeed in this role, you must have a demonstrated history and passion for building high performing teams and elevating talent to scale their and the team’s impact. Key Role Responsibilities
Lead a team of developers, QA, and governance functions to deliver on company goals and priorities
Build deep integrations across business functions and the IT organization to deliver outsized value cross-functionally
Grow and develop leaders and individual contributors through inclusion, intentional succession planning, and seeking opportunities to elevate talent to produce a high performing team
Bring innovation in key technologies across the enterprise data lake, event driven architectures, and emerging technologies through out-front planning and integration with partner and stakeholder teams
Seek opportunities to maximize delivery speed and quality by balancing workloads across internal, contractor, or offshore engineering teams
Deliver on enterprise capital initiatives by launching and expanding our enterprise data lake and supporting key business initiatives
Seek opportunities to responsibly and sustainably bring new and emerging cloud technologies to market with a focus on resource efficiency and scale
Architect efficient and scalable event-driven solutions that ensure our data is available where it is needed to impact the guest or employee experience
Translating business needs into data projects and data projects into business implications
Bring best-in-class governance, monitoring, and proactive remediation techniques and policies to ensure the business runs smoothly
Educating the company in data literacy and driving efforts to collect, manage, and use internal and external data to drive operational efficiency and better decision-making
Background
Demonstrated experience leading teams to delivery data engineering, pipelining, and automation technologies
Databricks, Snowflake or other performant data curation and enablement platforms
Event-drive architectures and data pipelining
Demonstrated experience in a team leadership role operating as a producer of talent
Proven ability to pick up new technologies and solutions as they emerge and ability to socialize and implement those solutions in a fast-paced environment
Proven data literacy:
The ability to describe business use cases/outcomes, data sources and management concepts, and analytical approaches/options.
The ability to translate among the languages used by executive, business, IT and data scientist stakeholders.
Significant experience with cloud platforms like Azure, GCP, or AWS
Managed infrastructure / IaC with tools like Terraform
IAM and other access management for users or services
Proficiency in working across multiple teams and departments as a collaborator and advisor to achieve a common goal
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to ensure alignment
Experience leading data engineering and software engineering at scale with cloud-native technologies
SDLC / CICD for rapid a reliable deployment
Automation and serverless deployment
API management and real time data augmentation and retrieval
Experience delivering quality technology solutions with distributed teams
Familiarity with Data Science, Machine Learning, and AI technologies
The expected Total Compensation for this role is $165000 - $190000 + annual bonus + equity. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.

Vail Resorts offers a ‘Hybrid’ work environment where employees living within 50 miles of the Broomfield office work on-site Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and have flexibility to work off-site on Mondays and Fridays. Employees living outside of a commutable distance can work remotely from British Columbia, Washington D.C., and the 16 U.S. states* in which we currently operate.
