Job Description:

Our Cloud Operations Site Reliability Engineering teams are one of the most valued departments within Sage, responsible for the performance and operations of Sage’s online product portfolio, ensuring products and services remain available, secure, and performant.

DevOps merge software development (Dev) and IT operations (Ops) to heighten an organisation’s capacity to deliver services and applications at high speed, These teams may not always include systems development professionals, who are the go-to in improving capability, performance and reliability across the end-to-end lifecycle of product. This is where our Site Reliability Engineers come into play.

As a Site Reliability Engineer at Sage, you’d be a team player and will embed yourself within operations and product teams as needed to advance the architecture and performance of our systems, whilst also being a subject matter expert training your peers in topics such as debugging distributed systems, building self-healing applications, ensuring cost-effectiveness, developing automation to eliminate toil, and ensuring availability to fuel the company's growth.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to work across the whole spectrum of services in the Sage Network, prioritising performance, scalability, and resilience of these products whilst building & nurturing relationships between CloudOps, Engineering, and Product Management teams.

As one of our Senior Site Reliability Engineers, you will have the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organisation. You’ll help lead our team by example and optimise other teams with your proven experience in designing, building, analysing, maintaining and troubleshooting complex large-scale, high-usage software systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, scale, and secure infrastructure to stay ahead of business needs through fault-tolerant architecture design, performance testing, profiling, tuning, and capacity planning

• Work within a talented team to ensure our products remain available, performant, secure, observable, and cost-effective

• Partner closely with, and embed into product engineering teams, influencing their approach and design

• Drive innovation and automation to enable reduction of toil

• Understand Cloud Operations from a customer and commercial perspective, building relationships with key stakeholders

• Use your product development experience to build and take ownership of services, tools, and components to support the function and teams

• Partner with other engineers to troubleshoot problems with our products and technologies

• Provide mentorship on best practices for development, back-end operations and integration

• Promote Site Reliability Engineering practices to help us grow in a sustainable way and ensure an excellent customer experience

• Champion and promote the Site Reliability Engineering function as a centre of excellence
