General Requirements:

System Administrator I – Bachelor’s degree with a major in computer science or related field from an accredited institution, with a minimum of one year relevant experience. A currently valid Microsoft Certified System Engineer certificate or higher could be substituted for one year of experience. A combination of education, experience, certifications, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

System Administrator II – Bachelor’s degree with a major in computer science or related field from an accredited institution. A minimum of two years relevant experience in directly related field is required. Foundation, master, and architect-level certifications for operating system platform preferred. A currently valid Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer certificate or higher could be substituted for one year of experience. A combination of education, experience, certifications, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered

System Administrator III – Bachelor’s degree with a major in computer science or related field from an accredited institution, with a minimum of three years relevant experience. A currently valid Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer certificate or higher could be substituted for one year of experience. A combination of education, experience, certifications, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:

System Administrator I- III – Assists with the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of university Information Technology systems.

Primary Responsibilities (Staff Positions Only):

System Administrator I – Acquisitions, installs, and upgrades computer components and software. Provides automation and maintains security policies in conjunction with information security office recommendations, and state and federal regulations. Works under the direction of the Director for Systems and Operations and the designated team lead.

Maintains core services to include e-mail, voicemail, printing, file sharing, authentication and access control, databases, video surveillance, disaster recovery, and storage systems. Processes service requests and tasks using the IT ticketing system and maintains small systems made up of one or two servers, software, and network devices. Manages federation, authentication, and access control systems. Performs routine maintenance and troubleshooting to maintain service availability.

Works under the direction of the Director for Systems and Operations and the designated team lead.

Manages federation, authentication, and access control systems. Performs routine maintenance and troubleshooting to maintain service availability. Administers information technology management systems such as SCCM , SCOM , Active Directory, Azure Active Directory and ADFS .

System Administrator III - Acquisitions, installs, and upgrades computer components and software. Provides highly advanced automation and maintains security policies in conjunction with security office recommendations and state and federal regulations. Works under the direction of the Director for Systems and Operations and the designated team lead.

This position maintains core services to include e-mail, voicemail, printing, file sharing, authentication and access control, databases, video surveillance, disaster recovery, and storage systems. Processes service requests and tasks using the IT ticketing system. Maintains small to large systems made up of multiple servers and network devices. Manages federation, authentication, and access control systems. Configures automation routines using scripting and other programming languages. Administers application-level databases. Administers information technology management systems such as SCCM , F5 Big-IP LTM / GTM / APM , Enterprise SAN / NAS platforms, Active Directory, ADFS , and Azure Active Directory. Additional skills required to perform this job should include knowledge of: PowerShell, GIT Source Control, Microsoft Operating System, SCCM , GPOs, firewalls, disaster recovery, and access management policies and processes.
