Position Description:
Supporting major design reviews to ensure entrance and exit criteria are satisfied and supported by the material and artifacts delivered and providing comments on any issues or discrepancies identified.
Providing technical engineering support to Engineering Review Boards, Risk Management Boards, and Failure Review Boards along with actions and recommendations for consideration in board decisions.
Reviewing mission assurance documentation such as Deviations and Waivers, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEAs), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Problem Action Reports (PAR), Root Cause and Corrective Actions (RCCA), Hardware Non-Conformances, Limited Life Items Lists (LLIL), Maintenance Requirements Documents (MRDs), and Critical Items Lists (CIL) to ensure safety and mission success.
Reviewing requirements verification and validation products to ensure flight hardware components, sub-systems, and systems are compliant with specified requirements. Providing inputs on areas of concern due to open work, discrepancies, deviations, and waivers.
Providing support and insight for component, sub-system, and system integration tests, including participating in Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs) and Break of Configuration (BOC) reviews.
Specific Skills Required
Flight hardware integration and certification experience.
Experience in evaluating and assessing flight data to identify root causes of anomalies, malfunctions and recommendations for corrective action.
Flight test and operations experience, with real-time operations and flight console experience.
Direct Engineering Review Board, Risk Management Board, Program Control Board, or Failure Review Board experience.
Familiarity with working in Controlled Work Areas (CWAs), with Clean Room experience preferred.
Familiarity with working on and around hardware subject to Electro Static Discharge (ESD) damage.
Excellent written and oral communications, computer, and interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience working in a team environment with multi engineering discipline interfaces.
Experience with ground operations & flight operational procedures and integration of hardware to a flight vehicle.
Functional understanding of flight and ground communications and data systems.
Experience with managing an operational timeline for mission operations.
Experience of flight certification processes and products required for certification of flight readiness.
A degree in electrical engineer, mechanical engineering, systems engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited university is required. Education and experience requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D., with a minimum 25 years of experience, Masters with at least 28 years of experience, or BS with at least 30 years of experience.
Experience with flight hardware integration, certification, operation and data evaluation
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience with Engineering Review Board, Risk Management Board, Program Control Board, or Failure Review Board experience.
Experience with ground operations & flight operational procedures and integration of hardware to a flight vehicle.
Must have or be able to obtain a TS/SCI clearance
Essential Functions
Work Environment:
General office environment (100%). Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<5%)
Physical Requirements:
Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (<10%)
Equipment and Machines:
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Attendance:
Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential Functions:
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
