CFD Research Corporation Hypersonic Research Engineer in Huntsville, Alabama
CFD Research is seeking a research-focused engineer to perform development and application of computational methods for hypersonic vehicle modeling and simulations. The candidate will be part of a team focused on physics-based modeling of multiple facets of hypersonic flight, including flight trajectory modeling, TPS aerothermal response, boundary layer modeling, material ablation and decomposition, hypersonic external flow modeling, Lagrangian particle tracking, signature modeling, and more. Candidate will support tasks focused on the development of multiple tools such as the Hypersonic Environment Analysis Toolkit (HEAT) as well as the development and application of high-fidelity CFD Software such as Loci-CHEM, US3D or FUN3D. The position provides a challenging work environment with excellent opportunities for growth and advancement as the hypersonic research and development portfolio of the team grows.
Requirements:
- Candidate must be a US Citizen and meet eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance
- Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering (or related STEM discipline) and three years of relevant experience. Preferred candidates will have a Master's Degree or PhD and one year of relevant experience.
- Candidate must have experience in compiled languages such as Fortran and/or C/C++ and knowledge of code compilation and development on Linux
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills is required
Preferred Experience:
- Experience developing code for modeling and simulation for engineering applications
- Experience with key aspects of hypersonic system modeling such as: hypersonic boundary layer and heat transfer modeling, ablation, non-equilibrium thermodynamics, chemistry modeling, turbulence, etc.
- Preferred candidates will have experience with fast-running, engineering level hypersonic codes such as ATAP, ATAC, CBAERO, HEAT, OSC, or others.
- Preferred candidates will have experience in CFD codes such as FUN3D, US3D, DPLR, LAURA, Loci-CHEM, or others.
