Description
As an analog systems and controls engineer, you would provide support specifically to MSFC (Marshall Space Flight Center) ECLSS (Environmental Control and Life Support Systems) Program within the Space Systems Department. The incumbent would serve a coordinating role with multiple discipline engineers with a focus on analog and control systems design. Prime focus would be in the area of ISS (International Space Station) ECLSS projects, including UWMS (Universal Waste Management System) toilet, Four-Bed Carbon Dioxide Scrubber, and other operational systems. The incumbent would also support development for Gateway ECLSS systems, such as the FRoG (Fluid Relocation on Gateway) transfer pump. Duties may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Developing test procedures and conducting performance tests for motor controller printed circuit boards (PCB).
Performing analysis on testing and performance data to support hardware development and mission support.
Coordinating with senior design engineers in development of initial concepts.
Coordinating with senior engineers in design and implementation of analog and controls algorithms.
Attending, providing input to, conducting, and/or presenting at technical reviews, working groups, and weekly meetings.
Providing periodic status inputs to project and Space Systems Department management.
Qualifications:
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field is required. A minimum of three years of related experience is desired. Degree from ABET accredited institution is desired. Typically, educational requirement is a BS with 0 - 5 years of experience.
Required skills for this position may include but not be limited to:
Design, analysis, and development of analog electronics. This includes, but is not limited to, signal conditioning, filtering and op amp designs.
Provide technical review and insight on program specifications and avionics requirements development. This includes, but is not limited to, participation in reviews, validation of requirement plans/methods, presentations on findings/suggestions and development of new requirements.
Proficiency in creating electrical schematic designs and PCB layouts.
Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
The ability to be flexible in easily transitioning between work assignments.
The ability to be proactive between formal assignments, and complete tasks with minimal direction.
Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint/Excel/Word.
Desired skills for this position include:
Experience with the requirements development, design, hardware development, documentation and performance testing of valve drivers, motor controllers and sensor interfaces.
Design, analysis and development of control algorithms and their application in power control designs. This includes, but is not limited to, testing of electrical power systems, design of electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility (EMI/EMC) filtering and control circuits, and power supplies with DC-DC converters.
Electronic designs and PCB layouts using the Mentor Graphics suite of software and other development tools.
Experience in populating PCBs.
Knowledge in space qualified and/or harsh environment Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical (EEE) parts, such as experience in EEE parts selection and derating analysis.
Understanding of MSFC’s processes and working within the NASA environment.

Essential Functions
Work Environment:
Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<10%)
Physical Requirements:
Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).
Equipment and Machines:
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Attendance:
Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential Functions:
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
