Job Overview:

The Project Director is accountable for the financial and technical success of the project and to lead Project and Discipline managers/leads to achieve project objectives. They must develop and maintain a positive relationship with clients that leads to future work. The Project Director mentors and coaches future leaders and is respected as a leader externally by multiple clients. They apply an advanced understanding of McDermott’s business to improve project cost-effectiveness, apply change management, risk management, and opportunity management principles, and improve project margin across projects. They are responsible for developing the project execution plan under new lines of the business that leverage company and industry capabilities.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities :

  • Manage large complex EPFC projects that may have multiple Project Managers or Alliance project programs

  • Manage projects with a total installed cost typically exceeding $500 Million USD, from inception to project completion.

  • Act as McDermott’s principal representative, responsible for all matters pertaining to the project and project execution in accordance with the contract, the Project’s Execution Plan, and the project’s HSE, project security, quality, schedule, and financial goals

  • Accountable to McDermott Management and the client for McDermott team performance

  • Hold authority to direct the Project Team within the bounds of McDermott Policy and have access to Senior Management for resolution of project issues and conflicts

  • Ensure the Project is administered and executed to the satisfaction of stakeholders by the highest ethical and safety standards and compliance with the Company policies & procedures

  • Overall responsibility for managing the large size and complex EPIC projects and for their financial and technical success (on schedule & within budget)

  • Complete responsibility for the management of all phases of very large and complex EPIC projects

  • Take bottom-line responsibility for the financial and technical success of the project

  • Review and approve project expenditures, costs, estimates, budgets, financial forecasts, and project schedules

  • Manage Project and Discipline Managers to achieve project objectives in accordance with the Contract and company requirements

  • Manage a project to meet cost, schedule, safety, quality, and contractual requirements to the satisfaction of internal and external customers

  • Typically manage projects with contract values of $500 million and beyond

  • Identify and solve complex problems; use a broad perspective and resources outside the project team to develop solutions, ensuring consistency with the project objectives

  • Responsible for all phases of planning and execution of the project

  • Manage relationships with customers and develop opportunities for project growth

  • Manage, organize, plan, and direct the project management effort or the project and be the manager representing our Company with the Client as a single point of contact

  • Direct project execution through subordinate Project Managers and functional managers

  • Ensure development, approval, and implementation of the Project Execution Plan [PEP], Project Set-Up, and Project Close Out

  • Organize the Project Team and fortify all required positions with appropriate and competent people so that any new lessons learned on the project are in turn documented in the company database

  • Ensure timely identification, tracking, and management of all changes (internal or external) on the Project resulting in an impact to the Scope of Work, Schedule, Cost, and execution methodology on the project

  • Managed bid Proposal as Proposal Project Manager In conjunction with Proposal Manager, Functional groups, Estimating, Legal, and Business Development Depts Leads Bid technical and commercial clarifications meetings and support negotiations with the client to bring about the successful award of the project

  • Foster an environment of building team morale and build consensus with the project team

  • Adhere to Company safety standards and promote safety culture among the ranks company-wide

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • 15+ years in the oil and gas industry (10+ Years as a PM)

  • Bachelor’s Degree and above (Master’s Degree is preferred)

  • Ability and willingness to support projects planned for remote and/or difficult locations

  • Strong Project Management experience of large-size EPIC projects coupled with good knowledge of the marine construction industry

  • Ability to develop Project’s Execution strategy, Profit Plan, and objectives to ensure efficient and effective implementation, aligned with McDermott Policies, overall business strategy, and objectives

  • Technical competency in the subject matter of the Project to be able to manage the implications of technical challenges and selection of key project team members

  • Effective and efficient communication skills

  • Capacity to maintain a working knowledge of the project as part of overall Project accountability and ensure implementation of required corrective actions

  • Data analytics-focused in support of tracking and trending of Project Performance

  • Ability to assist Project Directors in problem-solving and conflict resolution

  • Ability to provide recommendations to the Operations group in the development of policies and procedures as part of the continuous improvement process

  • Ability to understand and be able to communicate the link between the Project and corporate needs

  • Champion implementation and adherence to McDermott’s Processes, Procedures, and tools on the Project

  • Ability to strategies and foresee potential issues

  • Knowledgeable/insight into work planning, schedule, cost controls, risk management, progress measurement, and forecasting to drive the Project and its financial performance

  • Digital transformation focused - Demand organization’s support with digital solutions on the project as part of innovation, and continuous improvement processes

  • Understanding of EPC contracts and contracting strategies with the ability to communicate contract requirements to the Project Team

  • Ability to empower and empathize with team members
