Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking an energetic, self-motivated, and resourceful GIS Analyst to provide technical support to our multidisciplinary team and deliver solutions to our internal and external clients. You will prepare field maps, public meeting exhibits, and graphics for environmental documents. Accurate quantification and display of data is critical to our client’s success.

In the Gulf region, Stantec’s Environmental Services group works with clients primarily in the power, transportation, energy, and infrastructure development sectors. We provide GIS and mapping services to a diversity of projects such as environmental assessments, environmental permitting, Phase I & II site assessments, spills and remediation projects, wildlife and habitat monitoring, and heritage studies.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Create maps and perform a wide range of geospatial analyses in support of environmental permitting, environmental field surveys, and construction compliance for a variety of power-related projects, including, but not limited to, high voltage transmission lines, wind and solar energy facilities, transportation infrastructure and oil and gas pipelines

  • Adhere to established cartographic standards and Quality Assurance / Quality Control processes

  • Manage a wide variety of project-specific and reference geospatial data in accordance with defined data management standards

  • Support geospatial field data collection efforts. Typical collected features include wetlands, waterways and rare, threatened or endangered species occurrences or habitats.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, superiors, and clients

Qualifications

Capabilities and Credentials

Required:

  • Strong project management skills, collaboration and ability to work effectively in a team environment

  • Demonstrated experience with ArcGIS Desktop software and maintains expertise in GIS-related software and technologies

  • Proficiency with the ArcGIS Online platform (including Survey123, Field Maps, Hub Sites, WebApp Builder, Experience Builder and Story Maps )

  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro

  • Thorough knowledge of cartographic design and the ability to produce high-quality professional maps

  • Ability to independently perform the routine and complex GIS analysis and geo-processing tasks

  • Familiarity with the geospatial datasets relevant to multi-disciplinary environmental studies that are available from government agencies and other entities

  • Understanding of coordinate systems, map projections, datums, coordinate geometry and geo-referencing

Preferred:

  • Experience in environmental consulting

  • Experience converting design files (MicroStation & CAD) into ArcGIS deliverables

  • Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop or similar software packages

  • Proficiency with database software

  • Strong commitment to QA/QC procedures

  • Experience with mobile data collection and high-accuracy GPS receivers

  • Familiarity with Surface to Grid conversions

  • Experience with task automation using ModelBuilder, Python, or other GIS scripting languages

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geography, Planning, Natural Sciences (or a closely related field) or a certificate in GIS

Minimum of 2 years of experience as a GIS professional, preferably in environmental consulting or with a relevant agency
