Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and research. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.Essential Duties:Acts as a consultant to supervisors of special maintenance crews.Acts as consultant to staff engineers to coordinate construction operations.Analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes.Analyzes and recommends approval for modifications to highway maintenance contracts.Answers technical and policy questions related to bridge inspection and maintains bridge inspection data; analyzes data and provides summaries.Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.Maintains a critical bridge list and coordinates with the Bridge Division, area engineers and other district staff on critical findings involving state-maintained bridges to have them posted, repaired and/or closed to the traveling public.Resolves differences between contractors and inspectors.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
