Description

The Coordinator of Student Organizations provides leadership and ongoing support to UHCL student organizations. This position is responsible for assisting with student leader training and development, organization registration process, event registration and risk management, and promotion of student organization opportunities. The Coordinator of Student Organizations also supports student organization advisors, meets regularly with student leaders, and serves as the advisor to the Activities Funding Board.

Duties:

  • Advises and provides ongoing support to student organizations related to program planning, fundraising, financial management, leadership development, conflict mediation, and other related topics. Collects data concerning students’ co-curricular involvement, meets regularly with student leaders, encourages use of campus resources, and provides support to student organization leaders and advisors on utilization of student engagement platform.

  • Manages and supports the student organization event registration process. Meets with student organization leaders regarding special event assistance, risk management procedures, review of marketing materials, training, and provides additional event logistics support as needed for student organizations.

  • Serves as advisor to the Activities Funding Board. Provides support and guidance to the board and serves as liaison between student organizations and the Activities Funding Board by promoting and advising on opportunities. Supports recruitment, training, and ongoing development of student leaders.

  • Assists the Assistant Director with the development, implementation, promotion, and facilitation of student organization training and development opportunities. Supports late night and weekend programs as needed.

  • Processes new student organization registration, including but not limited to inquiries, governing document review, and conducting training on required policies and procedures related to student organizations. Provides support to student organization leaders and advisors on recruitment, retention, and marketing.

  • Promotes student organization opportunities to the student body. Assists students in connecting with organizations and interest groups that align with their hobbies, degree focus and other special interests.

  • Advises and supports student organization advisers on topics that include organizational development, member support, risk management, student leader development, officer transition, and other related topics.

  • Collaborates with office staff on all department programs, special projects, and other community building events. Collaborates with staff outside of the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership to host events and activities. Serves on divisional and university-wide committees and advisory boards. Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  1. Bachelor's degree.

  2. Experience working in a college or university setting.

  3. Knowledge of student development theories and best practices, preferably in higher education.

  4. Knowledge of group dynamics and supervision.

  5. Skills in collaborative student training and development.

  6. Skills in project management and time management.

  7. Skills in verbal and written communication.

  8. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.

  9. Ability to assess situations and problem solve.

  10. Ability to train and develop student leaders, individually and in groups.

Desired:

Master's degree.

Experience supporting and working with student organizations.

Bilingual Skillset.
