Western Cultural Resource Department Manager
POWER Engineers, Inc., through its Environmental Division, provides planning, permitting, engineering, site assessment, and corrective action services to clients worldwide. POWER is seeking a Department Manager to lead our Cultural Resource Department in the Western U.S. The Western Cultural team includes professional archaeologists performing work in California, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Montana, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Washington, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota.
This position can be based remotely from within any of the covered states listed above. The selected candidate will travel to a POWER office for periodic meetings. POWER is open to discussing remote work situations for the right candidate.
Roles and Responsibilities
The position requires extensive experience in directing and peer-reviewing archaeological investigations including records reviews, archival research, ethnographic research, intensive pedestrian surveys, testing, and data recovery. The position also requires experience in agency consultation, tribal consultation, Section 106 compliance, and developing agreement documents.
The Department Manager is also responsible for developing scopes or work, budgets, and schedules for all of these cultural resource services and directs team members across the country. Knowledge and understanding of both Western U.S. archaeological resource issues and methodologies is necessary.
This manager must have strong communication (both oral and written) and managerial skills. Department Managers are required to conduct bi-annual employee reviews, ensure POWER safety policies are implemented, participate in Environmental Division monthly administrative meetings, review monthly financial statements, and manage staff utilization for the department. A Department Manager is also required to prepare an annual business plan.
Required Education/Experience
Successful candidates must have the following:
Master’s degree in Archeology, Anthropology, History, or related degree
Ten (10) + years of successful experience coordinating or managing cultural resources studies
Registered Professional Archaeologist
Extensive knowledge and demonstrated expertise in federal and state cultural resource laws and regulations, including the National Historic Preservation Act and the Archaeological Resources Protection Act
Skills in cultural resource investigations, artifact analysis, regulatory compliance, technical writing, and project management
Successful experience in proposal writing and presentations, generating business development leads, and building/maintaining strong client relationships
Demonstrated supervisory skills with staff in multiple locations
Strong communication skills with clients, project staff, project managers, and division management
The ability to define and understand client requirements and manage expectations

Base Salary Range: $85K - $115K
The range for this position is being displayed in compliance with all state and local regulations. Salaries are set based on a number of factors to include an individual's job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. This means that no two candidates are alike. The range provided above does not include additional compensation such as bonus, health benefits, vacation, 401(k) match, etc.
