Full Job Description

The job of a Class B Assembler requires a range of knowledge and skills across each station of the product line. Skilled assemblers putting together machines read schematics and blueprints that show how to assemble the machine. After determining how parts should connect, they use hand or power tools to trim, shim, cut, and make other adjustments to fit components together. Once the parts are properly aligned, they connect them with bolts and screws, or other means to mate the pieces together.

Quality control is important throughout the assembly process, so assemblers look for faulty components and mistakes in the assembly process. They help fix problems before defective products are made.

In this job, you will work in a production environment, continuously working manually, hand tools, or small power tools. After an initial training period, productivity and quality requirements must be met. Durations of set-ups and run times will vary. Tasks require a fair degree of eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, and the use of both hands and arms on a repetitive basis for a full range of motion. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Read and understand schematics and blueprints
• Position or align components and parts manually or with hand tools
• Use hand tools or machines to assemble parts
• Conduct quality control checks
• Clean and maintain work area, tools, and other equipment

Ability to read schematics and blueprints and to follow specific written instructions and procedures. Ability to keep workspace clean and organized.

Ability to lift 60 pounds (solo); team lift up to 100 pounds Relevant Work Experience Assembly experience in a production environment preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Standing: Most tasks are performed in a standing position with intermittent walking. Lifting: Frequently lifting items weighing 5 lbs. to 60 lbs.; occasionally team lifting items weighing up to 100 lbs. Walking: Frequent walking short distances (less than 1/8 mile). Carrying: Occasional carrying of bulky items weighing up to 50 lbs. short distances. Pushing: Use of manual hand truck and carts to occasionally move skids or parts short distances. Pulling: Use of manual hand truck and carts to occasionally move skids or parts short distances. Bending: Occasional bending required to perform a variety of tasks. Reaching: Frequent reaching to load and unload parts from fixture, tubs, carts, or pallets. Handling: Frequent handling of parts ranging in weight from 5 lbs. to 60 lbs.

• Employees working on an industrial assembly line must have exceptional hand-eye coordination, which is the ability to visually control the hands at a rapid or constant rate. They typically perform the same task repeatedly, using their hands and power tools to complete the task.
