American Express Enterprise Cloud team is looking for innovators to help us build world-class applications, Cloud platforms and services supported by integrated CICD, Observability and security capabilities.

The Engineering Director, Cloud APIs will be responsible for driving and leading the engineering, and delivery of developer interfaces (API, UI, CLI) for multiple public cloud platforms. This Engineering Director will lead a team of Engineers to build a highly innovative and modern orchestration engine powering developer journeys across multiple public clouds leveraging cutting edge technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive the roadmap, design and delivery of a highly scalable, enterprise ready orchestration engine to enable various developer journeys for cloud services

  • Develop multiple developer interfaces (API, UI, CLI) to provision and operate cloud services in a secure and automated way

  • Provide thought leadership for advancement of developer experience and automation Amex’s cloud platforms

  • Partner with Cloud product, broader Enterprise Cloud teams, CTO and other key stakeholder teams to implement multi cloud API capabilities

  • Define and translate vision into actionable plans; ability to see the “big picture”

  • Recruit and develop a team of top-tier engineering talent to build great engineering culture

  • Monitor emerging technologies and manage relationships with technology vendors

Qualifications

  • 8 years of experience in leading application and/or platform design and implementation for highly available and scalable enterprise grade applications

  • 5 years of Experience in API design and development following REST, gRPC protocols.

  • Must have experience of Kubernetes, Openshift, Infra as code frameworks, API Gateways, CNCF technologies, CI/CD tools, Cloud Native application architectures, and various public cloud services like AWS, GCP, Azure

  • Must have experience building applications and platforms leveraging various AWS, Azure, GCP services

  • Professional Certifications in Public Cloud and/or CNCF related technologies preferred

  • Hands on coding experience in any major programming languages– Java, Javascript, Python, Go, .Net (C#)

  • Excellent understanding of modern software development practices, monitoring tools, Logging analytic tools

  • Thorough understanding of Agile principles and processes

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related science discipline or relevant experience

  • Strong communication, listening, and negotiation skills; able to convey important messages in a clear and compelling manner
