S&P Global Sr. Associate, Database Administration in Gurgaon, India

As a Database Administrator, you will be building, evolving, and operating the MS SQL server databases hosted as AWS RDS. You will be to ensure that our production environment is operating and performing optimized and efficiently; and that software is released and deployed in an efficient and streamlined manner, from development all the way to production.

This is a hands-on operational role with a balanced amount of tool and infrastructure development, including advanced scripting and automation. You will be supporting our internal infrastructure, as well as providing managed services support, product development, and support the entire stack for a cloud-based service offering.

Success in this role requires very strong system administration skills, an aptitude for distributed systems and attention to minute details. You need to have well exemplary troubleshooting abilities using network, systems and monitoring. You are expected analyze complex system behaviors or performance problems and be able to trace issues across multiple systems.

Responsibilities:

  • As a Database Administrator you will Support, Administer, Manage, and Tune multi-terabyte Database Systems that will enable S&P Global Market Intelligence to ingest, manage, process and serve-up Market Data Products.

  • In-depth knowledge of database administration/management processes and strategies.

  • Manage key database releases for Dev, QA, Alpha, Production and DR as part of the overall SDLC.

  • Maintain database including patch applications and enhancements/upgrades of environments.

  • In-depth knowledge of MSSQL database administration, including installation, configuration, performance tuning, and security.

  • Experience with database backup and recovery procedures.

  • Expertise in Disaster Recovery plans by configuring Always On, Clustering, Log-shipping, Mirroring and Replication (Snapshot and Transactional).

  • Implementing High Availability in SQL by configuring Always On Availability groups across Windows Server Failover Clustering.

  • Expertise in DAG setup and maintenance.

  • Updating statistics, Rebuilding and Reorganizing indexes, Defrag Tables, Replication, Linked Servers and Database Maintenance Plan.

  • Expertise knowledge in database encryption

  • Experience in query optimization and performance tuning. Experience in using SQL Profiler, Execution Plan, Performance Monitor and DBCC Commands.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot database issues.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Automate\Review routine maintenance tasks using scripting technologies.

  • Solve, non-routine problems and determine the best solution through cost/benefit analysis.

  • Work with other teams within operations and peer groups like Development and QA as a member.

  • Work with IT Service Management and other groups and make sure that all events, incidents, and problems are resolved as per the SLA.

  • Improve efficiency and quality of delivery by automating routine tasks.

  • Contribute to best of breed product support tools including run books, monitoring, and knowledge bases to aid in the product support process.

  • Suggest improvements to current processes and tools we use and suggest implementation ideas.

  • Willing to work on 24/7 shifts

  • Perform database backups/ refreshes in non-prod environments.

  • Participate 24x7 on call tier 3 support on a weekly rotating schedule.

  • Contribute to process and troubleshooting documentation.

  • Should be able to support virtualized environment.

  • Knowledge on the Monitoring tools such as Performance Insights, and CloudWatch .

  • Upgrade RDS instance. Taking Manual snapshot backup from RDS instance and restoration.

  • Adding more storage to RDS instance, changing instance type.

  • Checking CPU Utilization, Blocking sessions, Invalid Objects, Listener log. Gathering statistics at Database level.

  • Handling critical performance issues.

  • Adding, removing, starting and stopping the cluster ware resources.

  • Purging Audit Trails on database tables from Adding or removing nodes.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Candidates should be university degree level educated or equivalent and have a proven track record of software implementation experience

  • 8-10 years’ hands on experience on MS SQL Server, T-SQL.

  • Good knowledge on AWS, Azure cloud, and familiar with Postgres, Oracle, MYSQL

  • Strong business acumen is essential.

  • Ability to prioritize activities by managing a constantly evolving plan measured against client requirements.

  • A natural, consultative style is essential to build client relationships and meet the evolving demands of a wide and diverse client base.

  • Detail orientated with an attention to detail.

  • Strong communication skills required to present various levels from COO to developer, discussing hosted offering and delivering solutions across a wide array of requirements.

  • Team Player and able to interact with product, operations and technical teams in a professional manner.
