KJS Forest Products, LLC Heavy Equipment Operator in Guin, Alabama

Job duties can include but are not limited to:

Operatesfront-end loaders and stationary deck cranes to feed logs into the sawmill

Examineslogs and rough lumber to determine size, condition, quality and other characteristics to decide best lumber cuts to carry out, or usesautomated equipment to convey logs through laser scanners which determine the most productive and profitable cutting patterns

Operatesautomated equipment from control rooms or equipment consoles to saw logs into rough lumber; saw, trim and plane rough lumber into dressed lumber of various sizes.

Startsconveyor system to move logs and lumber to and from saws

Sets up and adjusts saw equipment and replaces blades or bands using wrenches, gauges and other hand tools

Utilizes woodworking tools like hand-held router, table saw, band saw, miter saw, sander, etc. when necessary

Performs daily preventative maintenance of mill including repair planning

Operates a loader and/or forklift to lift and load logs in and out of the kiln and onto trailers

Sorts / stacks poles

Ensures quality assurance of lumber product output

Stacks and sorts materials

Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations and utilizing safety equipment

Diagnoses and troubleshoots equipment that is not functioning properly

Responsible for the operation of front-end loader to lift and transport logs to and from storage areas, to feed conveyors, hoppers and to load into dry kiln as well as remove from dry kiln and stack for storage and load trucks

Starts engine, shifts gears, presses pedals, and turns steering wheel to operate loader

Moves levers to lower and tilt bucket and drives front-end loader to force bucket into bulk materials

Moves levers to raise and tilt bucket when filled, drives vehicle to work site, and moves levers to dump material

Verifies amount of product in storage bins and fills hoppers to ensure adequate quantity and quality of raw materials is maintained

Performs routine maintenance on loaders, such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning

Participates in making sure the quality and quantity of raw materials meets established standards

Ensures assigned established performance indicators are met

Works toward improvement of the assigned plant and surrounding area

Follows established procedures to ensure that the plant for which he/she is working is following state, federal, and local regulations and requirements
